Revelation 21: Death will be no more

'Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
'See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be His peoples, and God Himself will be with them; He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the former things have passed away' (Rev 21: 1-4).

Revelation 21 presents a famous poetic vision of the afterlife which is often quoted at funeral services.

Until the time of the Book of Daniel in C2 BC there was no Biblical theology of life after death, but only the netherworld of Sheol (Dan 12: 2-3; Ps 115: 16-18).

St Paul splits the Sanhedrin by proclaiming his belief in the resurrection of the dead (Acts 23: 6).

What does the Bible really tell us about life in the world to come?
