Chasing the black dog

  • CK, I hope it helps the young girl you know. I hadn't heard of it until I started but it has worked for me. Some of the memories which surfaced during it were very vivid and I was remembering stuff that I wasn't aware that I had remembered (not in a potential false memory sense, but in a "the hospital chair was orange, the pen was blue" sense - details I could not have recalled under normal circumstances.)
  • So glad it’s been so beneficial, NEQ.

Daylight savings ends here tonight. Meaning the nights are longer, and I find give more space to the darkness, physical and mental.

I've been putting in plans for the evening the last few weeks. I hope I can keep them up.
  • All the very best with the longer nights, Climacus. Putting in plans sounds very wise indeed. I hope they bring you many good things.

I am altogether a bit anxious today. Smallest kid has gone out with a friend for the first time. It will be fine. I know it will. And yet, the catastrophising is strong with me this morning. Oddly, I've been much less anxious lately, and so I can see it for what it is. Which is weird. Probably good in the long term, but weird.
  • ClimacusClimacus Shipmate
Hope all went well, Jemima. Prayers for the anxiety, and thanks it is lessening.

A few nights good, a few bad. I'll take that as a positive. Waiting to see dr now.

Back to the psychologist according to the doctor... I'm trusting he knows best.
  • :votive: for all of us.
  • Prayers for your psychologist visit, Climacus.
(All went fine, thank you. Much less anxious.)
  • I hope it goes well, Climacus.

    Best of luck, Climacus.
  • Amen, and best wishes to all whose Black Dog/Slug (delete as appropriate) is currently being subdued.

Thinking of everyone here. I'm generally out of sorts just now and hope it's only that and not The Return of The Black Slug.
  • HuiaHuia Shipmate
I hope it's not too Nenya. Is there any distraction that can take your mind off it? - that sometimes works for me.

Your mention of the black Slug reminded me of a discovery I made online yesterday. Apparently someone discovered a carnivorous snail that can move quite fast (for a snail) in the Valley were I grew up. Not sure if a carnivorous snail is better or worse that a black slug, but the thought amused me.

Where's that Slug-Eating Snail when you need it?

Thank you, all, for the sympathy and hugs and, as a friend of mine puts it, hugs back atcha! Regarding distraction, I think exercise may be a way forward. I do a couple of dancercise classes in the week and notice that I'm happier during them because I've got something specific and different to concentrate on. And the music seems to help too. Maybe I need to fit in another one or two classes. Hard to know when, though...
  • BTW, the Slug-Eating Snail is rather an impressive (not to say sinister) beastie.

    Here he is:

Yep. Australia got the weird and dangerous ones, we just got the weird ones.
  • It's the thought of snails having teeth........

  • Eeeeeep. I do not like snails at the best of times.

Much love to you, Nenya. I hope the exercise proves helpful (I find it helps me).

Eeeeeep. I do not like snails at the best of times ...
They're quite nice with some garlic butter ...

    I'll see myself out. :naughty:

  • No, that's OK.

Snails are best eaten, though you'd near a fair helping of garlic butter in which to fry those big bu**ers....

    :persevere:

Thank you. I've found another class that fits into my week. Trying it for the first time on Monday evening.

Piglet, you'd probably be clapped in irons for such a suggestion here. An elderly couple removed an empty shell from the area these snails live in, and only escaped a hefty fine by handing it into the Department of Conservation voluntarily. Apparently living snails eat shells of their deceased, and removing them upsets a vulnerable balance.
  • Strange beasties indeed. All part of God's mysterious creation.....

I wonder if Black Slugs are also edible, if fried deeply in garlic butter?
    :flushed:

No, not Black Slugs for eating.

    Charcoal-infused Snails.

Everything seems to be charcoal infused here.

Are things tough just now? Many sympathies if so.
  • Could that be a reference to bush fires, or something?

If so, more sympathies - and yes, that sort of thing does not exactly help lift the Black Dog (or Slug)...

    IJ
  • I suspect charcoal infusing is a gastronomy trend - along with burnt onion powder and bell jars full of smoke.
  • ClimacusClimacus Shipmate
    It was. Thank you Ck.
    Excuse the lack of clarity.

I hope all are travelling well.

I had a minor panic attack when out with 2 friends last night. It had been a while and I wasn't sure what it was.

Took myself to the toilet and calmed down and managed to go on. Unfortunately depressive and unhelpful thoughts come with my anxiety attacks and the rest of the night was filled with self talk telling myself I'm pathetic. And I awoke today feeling so.

But I managed to get out and about. But as night falls those thoughts come back.

    Begone! thou foule blacke slugge!

sorry to hear that mate. Been there, am there sometimes. Usually doesn't last long for me. Thank God for meds.
  • Sorry to hear that, Climacus. Much love to you, and a big curse at the Black Slug.
  • ClimacusClimacus Shipmate
Thank you, all. The slug seems to be resting outside now.

Prayers and best wishes to all here.

I am hanging out for the shortest day - which I think is about June 21 - when it will begin to get lighter. Every year I go into semi hibernation between now and then. I know the weather will get colder, but the dark mornings get to me.
  • ClimacusClimacus Shipmate
Prayers for dark mornings, Huia. (( ))

It's long, dark evenings for me.

Every year my city hosts a mental health event on the Winter Solstice. I may go this year.
  • It's different here, of course, at this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere.

But, natheless, <votive>for all those whose Black Slug slithers more menacingly, whatever the weather or date.

Mine is slithering closer, due to other factors (not unconnected with a twisted pelvis, and concomitant PAIN), but mitigated by a sympathetic osteopath and (*ahem*) herbal painkillers....

If only 'twere always so simple....

    IJ
  • Actually, having said all that, I'm so tired and discouraged at the moment that, as I may have said before, I wouldn't mind going to sleep and not waking up.

Oh, {{BF}}. So sorry to read.

May pellets rain down from heaven and shrivel up your slug and all the pain and suffering it brings.

  • (i) for my friend S, who may not be able to visit me on Wednesday because he is being eaten whole by his black slug.

BF I'm very sorry to hear of your wars. Do you feel up to visiting the Trumpton thread and thinking of inventive ways to pillory the President? You have been missed.

Thunderbunk I hope S soon feels like practicing the noble art of eckythump with that black slug of his.

A kind thought, but TBH the very idea of having to contemplate T***p and all his works only makes the Black Slug slither ever closer....
