No, it isn't possible for normal users to delete a post. You can, if fast enough, edit a post to a single character (you can't have an empty post) and delete the content. Admins can delete posts if we need to.

You go to the desired post, right-click (in Windows) on the time (!) and then click "copy link location", then put URL tags round it. The best way to practice is to press "quote" on a post like the one above, copy the result, and then play with it on the UBB practice thread in the Styx.

    Ta!

    @Galilit
    [url=https://complineunderground.wordpress.com/where-to-experience-compline/]Where to experience compline[/url]

[url= (code you want to link to)]what you want the narrative to say[/url]

    minus spaces
[url=(link)] codes for a url link
what you put between those coding sections is what is seen
    [/url] closes the link

    Gives you:
    Where to experience compline

    Hmmm - thanks

  • Struggling with my computer links?

Mmm. 'Address can't be reached'. Try again.
  • Still struggling with computer links?

Got rid of the extra 'https:' thing, seems to work!
  • finelinefineline Kerygmania Host
Anselmina, I had that same problem at first - the box that comes up for you to paste the URL in already has ‘http’ in it, so you have to delete that before pasting in your link, otherwise it’s repeated and the link doesn’t work.
  • verityverity Shipmate
i'm not convinced by the code.

    I'm used to :D meaning big grin/laugh.
having to write : smiley : is weird.

I'd be happy with the [ ] type of code...
  • verityverity Shipmate
    oh! come on!!!
: D didn't wrk in the last post!!!
  • Just because I want wavy lines too:

OK, that's very cool - hyphens do it, and however many you do, you get the same wavy line.
  • finelinefineline Kerygmania Host
I was just trying this out too.
You have to turn off 'smart punctuation', if your device has that enabled, or else two dashes turn into one long one, and the waves don't happen.
  • Just writing on a phone makes me cry, boohoo.

  • Did you try an ASCII boat?

    hm, I see. Very nice.
  • This.

  • Can't think when I'd use them but it's fun to know I can.

Because it's just been Maori Language week here I'd like to be able to use
macrons. Properly speaking the a in Maori should have a macron. Is there a code that would enable me to do this please?

    Huia the technopeasant.
  • Māori

The code for the a with a macron is
    ā

Found here, and using the Dec form. I was hoping the versions I prefer which use something I can remember rather than a random number would work, but the ā version just shows as the code, unlike, say â
  • You can also compose a post in a word-processing package inserting special characters, then copy and paste the whole thing in here.
  • finelinefineline Kerygmania Host
If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can just touch the ‘a’ key for longer than usual and all the possibilities with diacritics come up. You select the one you want. These are the options.

    à á â ä æ ã å ā

The last one is a smaller ‘a’ for some reason.

Thanks Curiosity Killed, Alan and Fineline. I will practice.

NEQ, perhaps quote this post to see a more elegant linking method.

@MMM you're missing lots of square brackets there:
    It should read:
    [url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherborne]Sherborne[/url]

First block has the whole bit in code - you are telling the system the url you want to use is ... by using [url=(then the full code)]

The word in the middle is what you want to show

[/url] - is the end of your coding section - that [/ ] format means end, and is what you use for italics, bold, strike through and etc.
And I'm using the code tags to show this without the system reading my coding as coding.

So that first block of code, outside the code tags, should look like this:
    Sherborne

I'm feeling so tired, it's late and...…. :sleepy:

Can you post images I wonder? 2nqe2cl.jpg
    You can indeed!

    You can even resize them:

    - Oh no you can't, not supported I guess. But you can make the image clickable to the original page:
    2nqe2cl.jpg

  • What kind of car is that?
  • Alfa-Romeo Dauphine
  • There's one for sale if anyone's interested!

    Alfa-Romeo Dauphine For Sale

I was going to post an image but they seem to have blocked it now - spoilsports!

It seems to be something that is briefly and without warning allowed from time to time (perhaps when the system is updated), but then soon disabled again.

I wish we could post images, but I understand why it's not allowed.

Ah yes, you can use a box by selecting "quote"

But that's not what I wanted.....
    Is this better?

    Yes that's it
    Use "code" for boxes
  • Did you know your editing time can run out even when you are in "edit" mode? Not ecstatic happy about that! Lastly, lets try some style. Yes, very good! :cookie:

Sorry about that - it has always (well, nearly always) been the plan to disable IMG tags, but it wasn't until the Dauphines appeared that we realised that one of the updates had broken the code that does it.

Actually if anyone is wondering, the code boxes are really for BB code, so that you can see the source code rather than what it does.

eg. [URL=http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=jJm7XUcEEIw8Vh2J%2BSHTDoh4l5k2TGxc#.W_Xna_Z2stM]Alfa-Romeo Dauphine For Sale[/URL] appears, rather than the link below:

Funny. "Sleepy" looks like someone with a cold, and "tired" looks like a tired kid having a tantrum. "Hushed" looks reasonable.
