The sermon literally bore fruit for our Mystery Worshipper

A young Mystery Worshipper at the Junior Church may well have reported that the organ and choral music coming from next door and disturbing their meeting was "like being in the other place"! Their meeting is just as important as "main church". And there are many churches who would be delighted to have some energised children present at their communion service.
  • No doubt, but I read it as saying that was the worst part of the experience. If a child having a tantrum is the worst experience, I think the church has done very well.

Sounds like a very interesting sermon. And I, too, have been frustrated in my attempts afterwards to find words to musical pieces I've enjoyed. Once I accosted a poor choir members afterwards and asked its name and where I could get the words.

Me, too. Except that when I asked a choir member those questions once, the answer was, "I don't know." Amazing.

And I've re-read the report carefully and I see no mention of organ and choral music from the children's service next door, let alone mention of it being distracting. Where Darda got that notion from is a mystery to me. What distracted was some of the children's conversation carrying over into the main church, and the effect the children had on post-communion meditative mood ( "Let all mortal flesh keep silence," as the hymn proclaims).

As a relative newcomer, apologies if my comments have strayed outside the boundaries of this category's guidelines. I was surmising that if some in the service found chatter from the children's group distracting, then the young people may well have found music from the main service distracted from the teaching they were receiving - it works both ways. I am not saying it is the view of either this congregation or the Mystery Worshipper, but I have come across churches who welcome children, as long as those children behave like adults.
Not having an extensive knowledge of past postings, I appreciate that I may be moving into dead horse territory!
