Is that allowed on a Sunday? I thought it was only permissible before midday on a 5th Saturday. But perhaps that only applies to High Church Anglicans registered with Classic FM.
Anyway: Dover Street.
Well if you take Russell Square when a player’s Con is raised, all stations west of Hammersmith are in Nidd, and anything east of Marble Arch is in Huff it rather closes down the options. On the other hand with Vortex operative I can play the Victoriana Exemption and go for…
I wondered how long it would be before someone would play that. I must confess I can only play it in online versions of the game, because while Cut and Paste is a wonderful thing, I'd be stumped if I had to actually say it ...
Oh dear - east of Marble Arch is still in Huff. It's going to take a bit of finessing to break the Huff, but I think a trip to Swiss Cottage ought to do it. On the plus side, this breaks the Huff, but the consequence is that players are now prevented from changing lines mid-turn.
as a late entrant into this round, you've left me little choice on where to go next - and on a Bank Holiday of all days.
Does Boston Manor work for anyone ? I mean, those who played a station with 3 or more vowels in the last 24 hours might get upset, but someone should be able keep us going.
Liverpool Station and I place the yellow chip to make all stations with an 'e' or an 'o' in the their names (ignoring the word 'station') in spoon for 24 hours.
I'd have thought Buckhurst Hill would be a better break on that lock. And you can achieve that one simply on the Central Line. Why you'd want to go to Buckhurst Hill is an entirely different question.
Because, my dear feline-named opponent, that leads, as surely as a double-reverse shunt into Clapham Junction means blue-chipped stations are in Nidd, that You Know What becomes inevitable, and the next player has to go to Dollis Hill
It's like the Glaisdale and Eskdale 1983 semi-final never happened. You do realise it was only the fact it was a limited overs match that enabled that to ever be finished?

You do understand precedent don't you? Or if we can't go that far, know about it?
You have at least heard of precedent?
So whether you have gone to Dollis Hill of your own accord or you (felt you) were compelled to so, that's where we are. So

I thought that by reminding people of the Leamington Spa debacle upthread we might avoid exactly this problem. More fool me.
For those who need it spelling out:
1. It was firmly established during the Leamington Spa Inquest (as it became known, the deceased being Gentlemanly Conduct in the Game of Mornington Crescent) that one cannot use a green chip on a Tuesday when any stations South of the river are in Nidd, unless one has also completed all three diagonals without a reverse shunt on an interchange. Notwithstanding of course holding four Kings and playing the Bishop from dummy, assuming a below the line score below 7, so thereby not forcing a Timetable Panic and the inevitable dropping of level.
2. Dollis Hill is not a mandatory play unless all properties in the colour group are mortgaged and at least two cures have been found, in which case a Researcher or Scientist can of course remove all disease cubes from any location they visit. This of course only during off-peak hours assuming that all stations are covered by an Anti-Magic sphere or similarly functioning provision.
How anyone can get confused by this actually rather obvious implication of the Rules as Written is beyond me, and was beyond those who had to do the mopping up after the Leamington Spa incident, but once again this thread shows why the explicit rulings were necessary, not to mention the danger of forgetting that House Rules are just that.
Although I must give way to Karl's encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules, I think that, following the precedent set by the Finchley Road Irregulars at the end of the '84 season, we've now completed the knot, so the spoon is inverted, the District Line is clear, and Dollis Hill itself is placed in spoon.
So I'll play Westminster and claim the wheelchair access bonus. I realize that this leaves me vulnerable to an Early Day Motion, but with the spoon inversion preventing straddles, I don't have a better choice.
I'm also cashing in a set of three cards for ten reinforcements which I'll place all on Euston Square; an obvious move I know but still it's obvious because it's the only possible choice.
Does mean I've lost the skewer through the Jubilee line, but I can (and will) declare 2s and Jacks wild, at least until Hearts are broken.
Hmm - if we were playing at a table that would need a saving throw. I think the Burnsall and Bolton Abbey 1997 Ruling was that it should be allowed if the difficulty is less than 5 so (quick calculation based on the square root of the average speed on that line, carry the three, comes to 4.5678) you've just squeaked through. Lucky.
Amersham should put your path to victory in Huff, nevertheless.
Crikey, Karl - I might have thought twice about starting this malarkey if I'd known the Grand Archdruidical Panjandrum would be playing ... <notworthy>
As I got double points for my last turn, I should just about have enough green chips to get me south of the river without putting anything in Spoon:
<snip> but I can (and will) declare 2s and Jacks wild, at least until Hearts are broken.
I’ll add a tanner to KarlLB’s florin which gives me half a crown. Then I’ll draw the standing Historic Royalty card from Elephant and Castle which gives me a jewel of a move to…
Tuppence More and Up Goes The Donkey - which means a quick pass through the Oxford Street Waterstones and up to Sto Helit Stagecoach Halt. Can probably pick up a few cheap cabbages.
Ooo - that's clever. Always risky, bus route clicks. I blame Thatcher; no, really, deregulation really messed up the rules there. Back in the day Sheffield was like a chess board for regularity and was almost like a game within a game - you could stock up blue chips from Fulwood to the Northern General, then trigger conditional Spoons placed on Darnall and Attercliffe Road to get you straight down to Mornington Crescent itself by way of a Tube Transfer token granted by going down the Sharnbrook Tunnels.
But I reminisce. I have the option of getting us all in Nidd in Calderdale by heading for Hebden Bridge, or risking opening up a Railcard Straight Flush by grounding in Leeds.
Overall, less of two evils as it is, I'll risk Horsforth. I think that gives a couple of rounds grace before someone gets a full toss.
Ah yes, but surely we have to go via Newcastle and the Border Counties, hence Riccarton Junction (no road access: passengers and sheep make their way on foot).
Whitby - river naming link. The linguists amongst us will realise that Usk and Exeter are also possible plays at this point, although a yellow chip would be needed for disused station passes.
Also, this now opens mainline steam. This will probably give people like @Baptist Trainfan a bit of an advantage.
<pending stewarts enquiry - under WHICH codicil are we allowing overground stations? It really matters...>
Sloan Square
P.S. I did enjoy the posts on page one from Newbies asking about the rules... which version do you think is the easiest to learn?
The answers to both the above are the same.
We're naturally playing 47th Ed. I'd assumed we were using the Codicils and proceedings from:
*Biddenham, Bromham and Stevington 2018
*Mortehoe and District 2017
*Threlkeld, Keswick and Skiddaw Forest 2016
These codified earlier Summary Rulesets so should form a complete ruleset and that's what's currently being used in the national Internet MC finals and will be used in the Tabletop Championships in Cholsey in August, so it makes sense to use them. They also have the advantage of being considerably lower in pagecount than the 2015 Rules Cyclopaedia which it was joked was in danger of upsetting the orbits of planets in the solar system by forming a gravity well.
All that is true, but the Ashcott-under-Wychwood (Wartime Emergency Regulations) Amendment of 1917 have never been formally rescinded as Lloyd George was on holiday at the time. There is therefore a debate to be had as to whether any stations between Dover Street and St. Mary's can be admissible after 8pm (weekdays only).

Some people only seem to skim these foundational documents. It's like people who think the Free Parking house rule in Monopoly is in the official rules.
eta - now AfZ has made a move the Skewer is removed and I can pin the Jubilee line and advance to Baker Street

Anyway: Dover Street.
Tottenham Court Road
Russell Square (or, I suppose, anywhere on the Piccadilly with 'mind the gap' announcements)
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
Meanwhile, passports at the ready:
Pimlico
Westferry
Tooting Bec
The Northern Line is trumps, and all wooden stations are wild.
Paddington

Woodford
Romford
Acton Town
Early closing day in Acton - Goon bank holiday exemption
Stratford
All stadia now score double.
White Hart Lane
Rickmansworth
I think that moves the Spoon to the District Line only, barring reverse shunts.

Wild Jacks means that Maida Vale is a fairly standard play, but if I shunt at Queensway, I can come in the back line for a bonus chip.

I would not under any circumstances advise anyone to look up the woefully inadequate and deeply misleading Wikipedia article.
