  • Sounds wonderful in terms of mercy, action, the inner life (3 real plusses) BUT why does beauty have to be contrasted with these? For many, it is a way to God.
  • "Tell them, dear, if eyes were made for seeing,
That beauty is its own excuse for being."

    Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The Rhodora"
  • Hmm.

What do they mean by a 'reality church'? That other churches are somehow unreal, or inauthentic?

Judging from some of the contents of their website, that's just what they do mean.

Not that that detracts in any way from their Good Work, but much of what they do is surely also being done by churches of all types and denominations.
  • We humans have a great need to define what we like against something we reject. So a friendly church cannot be beautiful and a beautiful church cannot be friendly.
    Why not both?
  • One would be interested to know if they are truly as welcoming and accepting of all people as they say. It would be great if they are!
  • Quite.

The Reporter said 'it felt like a fairly comfortable middle class group overall', which to me rings faint alarm bells - though I can't quite explain why...

They are clearly doing a Good Job in their own way, so criticism seems invidious.
