    What an odd way to begin a mass—with the story of the two school faculty members—if all the Pastor could offer in response to the 'confusion and upset' was that the church has 'catching up to do'. I imagine the adults are now as confused as the kids.

    I am reminded of the wonderful 2014 film <Love is Strange> with John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, where the opening plot device is just such a sacking by a heartless cleric.

    These things should not be hushed up, of course, but perhaps the start of Mass was not the best place to talk about the matter? Hardly conducive to worship...but OTOH, the need to address the affair may have been imperative.
