  • I did not know that. Therefore, I must go to Acton Town to don the waistcoat of ignorance.

Is that the bit of the Gospel Armour that didn't make it into the Epistle to the Ephesians?

While we're on the subject, Gospel Oak
  • But that requires the Temple.

Hmm I recommend a breath of fresh air. Walk up through the Inns of Court, cross over Fleet Street and walk up Chancery Lane to Chancery Lane station in High Holborn and take the Central Line to

    St. Paul’s

What an excellent idea. Will we be in time for Evensong?

Afterwards, I think a spot of dinner might be in order, and there are some lovely restaurants around Covent Garden.
  • Hmm, you might be a bit late for the Opera if you've been to Evensong and then had a meal ... Of course, if it had been summer, you could have gone to a performance at Holland Park.

Given the weather we’ve been having, I recommend something indoors. Let’s see what’s on at the Odeon

    Leicester Square
  • I couldn't see much, because someone with a High Barnet sat in front of me and blocked the view
  • You should have gone to Crewe.
  • We might try for HolyHead from there.
  • Or Fairlop (which, I believe, is the least used station on the network).

Have you ever been to Georgemas Junction?
  • Going a bit far afield so Southfields and 15-love

After the extended delay due to signal failure I posit the only appropriate response is Harrow-on-the-Hill.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
    Ooh ... controversial!

Dollis Hill (Sorry about that ...)
  • Butler's Hill (NET)
  • Allegedly the least-used station in Wales: Sugar Loaf (see https://tinyurl.com/y6tafrr6). Hard to get to as half the line is still closed following a freight train derailment some weeks ago.
  • Hmm, tricky, tricky, I'll have to spin Atherton (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atherton_station) since this is the last weekend it will be a station.
  • Back home to Alfreton Parkway
  • Are you allowed to do that? I thought that the Erewash Valley line was in Knid after 6pm on Saturdays. You'd be much better trying for Dagenham Heathway.
  • That is allowed, but it opens a three way diagonal to anyone holding three yellow chips.

With the main lines therefore in partial Nidd (catch point reverse shunts notwithstanding) it's fairly safe to play Tottenham Court Road, which conveniently completes a lateral meld.
  • Passes two yellow chips and a red chip to Baptist Trainfan to avoid being sedged. Victoria
  • Thank you (whew!) Continuing the royal connection, Queensway.
  • They fall for it every time. It's like the rules are out of print or something.

Of course, the sidings are still hidden in the envelope, but we can make a guess from recent plays that Picadilly is still wild. Therefore it's probably (depending how the honours are split) best to head to Barking.

Quite right, and if the symptoms persist, then I suggest Dagenham.
  • Not long since we left there ... as it's Sunday evening, Sagittarius is in the ascendant, and Occidental Diagonals have become cruciform, may I tentatively suggest Dolau. (Don't forget to tell the conductor though: trains only stop by request).
  • Are you using a modern set of rules? My original rules show the whole of Wales closed on Sundays. Willesden Junction.
  • HelixHelix Shipmate
From Willesden Junction you can shuffle along the sidings to Plaistow.
  • Reverse to Upton to avoid a hammering.
  • Are you using a modern set of rules? My original rules show the whole of Wales closed on Sundays.
No, the Sunday Closing (Wales) Act was revoked in 1961, though it took years for every area to loosen up- oh, that was pubs not trains? Sorry.

Upton's on the Wirral, isn't it? We'd better go to West Kirby.

What I'd really like to do at this point is get on the RER C but they still haven't finished the repairs after that 3 tonne beam collapsed on the track last week (true story). I'll have to make do with the A.

    St Germain en Laye
  • I guess we still have a few more days to play using the euro rules. Madrid Atocha and antes up a yellow chip.
  • As everyone knows (well, I didn't until I'd been there), the main hall at Atocha is a tropical garden. So, obviously, we play a green chip and end up at Kew Gardens.

David used to recount the story of a bloke from Shetland who, when filling in some official form or other, was asked for his nearest mainline railway station, so he put "Bergen".

    It probably was.

Not much in it, but Thurso was still nearer.

Yes, I checked distance from Baltasound and Skaw. You may wish to double-check though.

Quite genuinely, when I first acquired an Oyster card, for some reason that now escapes me (registering it?) I had to fill in a form which wanted to know where your nearest London Underground station was. I resorted to Google Maps to find that Chesham is the appropriate answer for Bootle.
