It went well with just the one singer. One of our church folk pointed out afterwards that I had played for the husband's funeral about 3 years ago, same hymns and readings (only the name was changed!!!) and no one sang so I was pleased to have a singer for this one. Was a very different funeral, no displays of emotions of any kind or even laughter, just blank expressions! It was live streamed which I was able to look at later that day.
And a slightly different eulogy perhaps. We were wondering if just the one singer made it a bit more poignant, so it's strange to hear that there were no displays of emotion.

Yes, slightly different eulogy from the husband's. No displays of emotion during the eulogy was very odd. I have been to many funerals, I was a funeral director for about 15 years, and this would rate as one of the 'coldest'!
It isn’t good. At last count only 9%of population fully vaccinated. Rollout has been clumsy, mixed messages and bad press re the AZ vaccine and now new recommendations re decreasing the time between AZ shots ( from 12 weeks to 8) and finally the green light for vaccination of pregnant women.
The complacency and stupidity of the public beggars belief. It is amazing how many idiots are trying to flout the stay at home rule and are getting busted. At last count >100 new positive cases yesterday so lockdown won’t be short and sharp.
Despite the flak she copped on another thread Our Glad ( the state premier) continues to do a sterling job as has the chief health officer.
It does concern me that scanning QR codes and the wearing of masks on buses are just not happening as often as they were here, There is a complacency that I think if foolish in light of the easier transmission of the Delta version.

We had our second AZ injections today. It was a long wait with the first in April. Also keeping a very, very low profile. The coffee shops/cafés are limited to takeaways, and as opposed to a couple of weeks ago, there's no standing in a street or on a walk just having a chat with someone a good 2 metres away. Our usual local restaurants are also limiting themselves to takeaway, and who can blame them? And now there is compulsory checking in electronically at the supermarkets, even at the butcher in a local centre with just 7 shops.
Good to hear; ditto in my neck of the woods ( just east of CBD) and in inner west ( workplace). The big concern in the City of Fairfield ( 35 km SW of )CBD is a large population, multigenerational households of 6 plus and a lot of people is casual work ( service, aged care and construction) who if they don’t work aren’t paid
At least I have to go to work ( hands on) though came close t making a scene in the bus this morning at some silly cow what actually took off her mask to yap on her mobile. Luckily we pulled into Railway Square and 20 passengers boarded so she masked up before I was tempted to thump her
Masks are supposed to be mandatory on all public transport here too, but I estimate that less than 50% of passengers wear them. Fortunately the frequency of my bus route (every 10 minutes) and my off peak travel means that I seldom have people sitting near me.
I think that because Christchurch has had no cases in the Community since the initial lockdown people have become slack. We do have quarantine hotels here though and it would only take a leak for one of them (such as has happened several times in Auckland) for the situation to change.
Soldiering on here. Little Miss is stuck with us and can't return to Bathurst for start of semester 2 - she's none too happy. Various activities and trips have been cancelled, certainly no trip to Perth to visit the ailing parents in August after my second AZ shot as planned. (Not bringing my shot forward, BTW). Christmas in July in the Blue Mountains with friends in 10 days postponed.
I'm up to my 350th 5.5 km walk during the pandemic, forging on towards the 2000 km mark in the next couple of weeks.
Four hours of zoom meetings common on work days, while I'm not going to Bunnings this week to buy stuff for garden projects as they are not essential - even though helpful to one's sense of achievement in the midst of it all.

This week's project will now be converting an old guinea pig hutch into a street library with Little Miss. I think I have most of what we need in the offcuts pile.

Mine used to be known collectively as fructus (long u on 2nd syllable) ventris mei or else firstborn, long awaited and late final extra. Daughters (#2 and 3) were collectively known as Les Girls ( only a Sydneysider would get the allusion) They are now 43, 36 and 34 and could not care less.
They did have names for ship reference for a while ... Zapplettes and Kuruzapplets still enumerated accordingly. Zapplettes 1-5 now have puppies of their own. Z#6 is holding out. K-Z##7-8 are wild and free, and long since left the nest.

At 19! The offspring have been referred to as Biggest, Middle and Little Miss since the early days of SoF - and only on SoF.

My offspring hasn't registered for the new Ship but was on ye Olde Shippe™ as Curious kitten, and has been to quite a few meets various.
