The government will certainly hope that this week's royal schmooze-fest will make a positive impression on Trump, creating a feelgood factor for the UK.

It's an unusual and carefully crafted state visit. There's a crammed schedule squeezed into a day and a half, most of it dedicated to royal spectacles. Windsor is being used like a royal theme park.

    BBC

Probably wise, if there is to be any chance of Trump taking any notice if any issues the UK government cares about.

Pictures going round of Trump at the 9/11 memorial looking like he has had a stroke. The right side of his mouth has obviously dropped. He is looking very ill. I would say an intervention is needed. He is supposed to be coming over here soon. I am not sure he will make it.

I wouldn't make this diagnosis based on one picture. He's old, and he's not well in the ways that old people tend not to be well. This doesn't mean he's going to die any time soon. Based on all the old people I've known, I think he could stroke out overnight or his life could drag out for several more years. For someone getting top-tier medical care, the chronic conditions of old age can be managed for quite a while, right up until they can't.

Trump loves all things royal. I think Charles will butter him to the hilt.

You may well be right. Charles III is a little less unshakeably diplomatic than Elizabeth II was, though. There is a slight possibility that he may blurt out what he actually thinks.
  • Well. we had a visiting family and the sound technician walk out of church today after our pastor, while speaking against the increasing violence rising in our country, also said Charlie Kirk's views were against the teaching of the church. He listed three examples: LGBTQ issues, immigration, and women's rights comparing them to the official positions of the ELCA. I did not notice the family walking out and was told about the sound technician after the service was over. I know the sound technician comes from a conservative background. The division is there.
  • We are a blue to blueish-purple congregational. No direct mention of the assassination was made in the sermon at our place, but in the prayers of the people we were called to pray for the family and friends of Charlie Kirk, for Tyler Robinson and his family and friends, and for “our American family.”

I understand what you mean. It is not the only one. We do need to be careful yes, but equally this should be investigated closer by the media including over here as we need to be prepared for the visit.

I'm sure that if needed he would get excellent care from the "socialist" NHS.

I find myself unable to care if it is or isn't in this instance, though I wouldn't be surprised if Air Force 1 is able to maintain a higher cabin pressure than is typical if that was the relevant factor.

It has its own medical facilities including a small operating theatre, and there are US medical facilities in the various US bases in the UK, so he’s well catered to in terms of health care, even before you get to UK specific options.

Should it be investigated? It's my understanding that the age and health of the U.S. president suddenly stopped being important sometime around July 22, 2024.

FBI Director Kash Patel, in his closing remarks concerning the arrest of Tyler Robinson, addressing Charlie Kirk, said something to the effect: "We have the watch. See you in Valhalla."

Odd saying, considering Patel is Indian, not Viking.

Two possible explanations. 1) Sometimes used by Marines for a fallen comrade. Problem is, neither Kirk nor Patel were in the military. However, Kirk and Patel were close friends, each of them appearing on the other's blogs or broadcasts.

    2) White nationalists have long used Norse Mythology in reference to themselves. Problem is Patel is not Northern European. Kirk, though, identifies as a Christian nationalist.

Maybe it was a combination of both lines of reasoning.

Either way, or not, it is still an odd saying at the end of a speech of a new conference in LDS country.

Well if he knew Kirk would appreciate the comment, then he might well have said it, whatever his socio-religious background. I had a friend who was a pagan, and I would always send him Beltane and Samhain greetings, even though I didn't think those days were religiously significant. But they were to him.

No, he knew other nationalists would appreciate the comment. These are code words. Both sides are doing it. They are like red flags. Here is a recent discussion from NPR's 1A show.

I am guessing that his inevitable death, sooner or later, is not going to make very much difference. He has been nothing more than a weak, self-interested puppet who has served to put more dangerous people in the positions of power that they wanted. In my view, all tuppenceworth of it, that is the danger the USA, along with its former friends and allies, is facing.

Going back to my comment about Rats eating their own.

Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, is said to be a member of the Groyper movement lead by Nick Fuentas. . . .

So much for the Radical Left causing Kirk's death, Mr Trump.
And it turns out that “is said to be” was nothing more than speculation and possibly even wishful thinking.

I think that still remains to be seen. If Utah's prosecutors are fished from the same pool as the DOJ we could yet find out that some of the 'evidence' is made up out of whole cloth.
