I dislike tidying but I love a tidy house. I find tidiness calming.

When we moved here we got rid of two thirds of all our stuff and furniture - so we don't have any clutter or things we don't need. It's a very small house.

But, even so, it's never really tidy.

I knew right away that it would not be good news. When M saw my face, she came over and hugged me.

Motherboard was quite a character and had boundless energy! M and I had several fun get togethers with her! I think the first one was one of the Shipmeets in Colorado. So many fun times associated with that meeting (of axe murderers!!)

Mobo and JCP had relatives near my home, so many times when they were visiting them, they made time for us and we would meet in a restaurant, usually Cracker Barrel, which was halfway between my home and where they were staying. We would talk for hours and always had such a lovely time together!

My BFF was with us on several of the times we met here in Florida, and we enjoyed being together very much! Mobo and JCP invited us to stay with them when we had the Alien Meet in New Mexico. We had such a wonderful time! Mobo had so many interests, and their home was filled with her quilting projects, and other crafts. She also had a small orchard and a garden which supplied them, and many Shipmates, with chili peppers!

I'll think of some good stories about Motherboard later. Still processing being on Earth with no Motherboard with us.

Today is the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

I was there.

I was working at a law firm on Maiden Lane, which runs east-west through Manhattan's Financial District. Our office was more toward the eastern edge.

I had gotten off the subway that morning at Rector Street, directly across the street from the World Trade Center. It was a bright, sunny morning. I remember noticing how bright and sparkly the World Trade Center looked in the morning sun.

Walking to my office and settling in, I was busy at my desk when I heard a loud crash. It must have been a construction crane collapsing, I thought. Those things happen. But then came another crash. Someone turned a radio on, and we learned what had happened, and that a plane had also crashed into the Pentagon and that another one had crash-landed in a field in Pennsylvania.

We all assembled in the Help Desk room at the office, which was in the front overlooking Maiden Lane. We were gazing down Maiden Lane, watching the second WTC tower burn, when all of a sudden we saw it collapse. A cloud of black smoke rolled down Maiden Lane like an avalance, and everything turned pitch black and remained so for about five minutes.

When light finally began to penetrate the smoke, it looked like it was snowing. Ash was falling from the sky, coating everything. One of our workers, a bit late that morning, came in from the street completely covered in ash.

We closed the office. My apartment was in Brooklyn. I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and hitched a ride on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to as near to my apartment as we could get.

The office was closed for about a week. When it reopened, I had to take a different subway line into Manhattan, as the Rector Street station on the line I usually took was badly damaged. Police were in the station, checking IDs and inspecting bags. The acrid smell of destruction was strong in the air and remained so for weeks.

It was months before I could even bear to glance in the direction of what used to be the World Trade Center. I could not watch any reference to it on television.

I won't get a diagnosis as I'm already diagnosed ADHD and I'm coping fine with only a couple of daily glitches.

My ADHD coach 10 years ago was absolutely amazing and taught me all the coping strategies I didn't already have, learned from family.

I reckon I have an autistic processing system and an ADHD personality.

So I like routine and order - and work towards it all the time. And I love spontaneity, new things, experiences, adventures and high risks.

Ho hum - what a mixture. No wonder my dear Mr. Boogs finds me confusing!

I've just finished Couch25K. Well, Couch 2 30mins which is rather more like 3.5K for me.

I'm quite glad I've finished it as I did discover that while I can run if I really force myself it's still on a par with being flogged with stinging nettles in terms of enjoyment. So it's been a great motivator to get back on the bike as an alternative.

Now, losing weight - that's the hard one, because cheese. I can sub that out for low fat cottage cheese, but there's only one brand I like because everyone else's is too soggy and I can only get it from one supermarket.

What are people doing? During the day I plan on grading papers and such, but I in the evening I’m thinking of watching “A Capitol Fourth,” which was recorded tonight on July 3, a non-politically-partisan traditional celebration that airs on PBS and can be seen for the next 2 weeks on YouTube. Possibly also YouTube recordings of Epcot’s American Adventure presentation (which is celebratory but does not ignore the struggles) and Walt Disney World’s fireworks with the July 4 ending. I’ve got hot dogs and (frozen) hamburgers with appropriate fixings. I don’t plan on going out amid huge crowds in the heat (or rain, though God knows we need it here in Florida right now).

Maybe some music while grading of some appropriate type. Charles Ives was a US composer, or Aaron Copland, who might be apropos. (Though honestly I’m still listening to gay anthems for Pride…)
