Can you arrange for that to be sent here? A very fresh evening

Glad the surgery went well @huia.
  • Glad to hear surgery went @Huia. 3.3°C, feels like 1.5°, if you want a seriously fresh evening, @Gee D, although I suspect @Zappa’s is even fresher!

Nah, everyone send yourselves here and let's have a mega Shipmeet 🏝️ 🐊 😎

  • @Huia, I hope that waiting time passes quickly for you.

Such a foggy morning this morning. I was a bit stressed all morning, Cheery son had a driving assessment (medical) and a foggy morning was not ideal for him. Now we wait to discover what the written report says. Hopefully it won't note any new problems for us to deal with.

It was very strange being home alone this morning - I got so many little jobs done! I'm glad of that because it means I can have a slothful day tomorrow and not feel guilty. I might even make a cake as our bananas are looking a bit "tired". Bring on the weekend!!

Likewise. Funeral of old mate & colleague tomorrow morning then home to pick up bag of stuff to deliver to old mate in aged care. Not looking forward to an earful of complaints about perceived awful food and nursing staff’s ( in his view) poor English. I’ve already delivered a serve about that & reminded him that said staff come from cultures where the aged are treated with kindness and respect. All day choir workshop on Sat then dinner with son& partner Sat ( am tasked to do dessert). Another trip to putrid Waterloo ( old friend’s tip of a flat) anticipated Sunday… horrors

It's even a tad chully by our standards at the mo.

You think 24° (presumably C) is "chully"???

Youngest bro reported that 27.8mm of rain was recorded yesterday where he was working. He was lucky he wasn't sent further south where they had 50mm. I offered to send scuba gear if it got worse.

I had to go out for cat food this morning and was fortunate to meet my neighbour, so got a ride home. I always take advantage of such co-incidents and buy large packs of toilet paper because it's so bulky to carry. I am fortunate in having really helpful neighbours. It's especially noticeable to me as the previous one threatened to kidnap or shoot my cats. Her son told me after she died that he and his brother were removed from her care due to mental health issues.

A sunny day at last!!! No clouds, no rain, no wind. Not exactly tropical, maximum temperature forecast is 11C, but almost worth celebrating.

Mine's due a couple of days after Bastille Day, easy to remember because Bastille Day is my youngest brother's birthday.

Another cold front due to move in across the Cape here in South Africa, thinking of you @Huia and @Gee D. Made mushroom, leek and barley soup for the weekend: my sister in Canada tells me she and her adult children went across the US border to Seattle, very taken with the large protest marches and friendliness.

Proteas and leucadendrons brightening the mountain slopes here, snow melt cascading down the mountains. Jubilation locally about cricket wins and fireside evenings with vintage red wine.
  • What a lovely picture of nature and happy things in your part of the world @Mary Louise, just beautiful. Also good to hear about the friendly nature of the protests in Seattle.

We too have had soup, made by Cheery husband for lunch today. Chicken and vegetable, yummy with toast (which I rarely eat these days), but perfect on a damp winter day.

Regular phone call with aged aunt postponed until tomorrow, as she has a very busy social life.

A quick trip to the Swedish shop yesterday, I scored with a new flat sheet for the spare room bed and a storage box, which has yet to find a use.

It has been ejoyable to have a few days where the minimum is still above zero! Probably not for much longer, though!

    Did the sheet require assembly?

Thanks, FD. It was a weird birthday - probably only got 18 hours of it and spent that on planes and in airports.

Back home late yesterday after 5 1/2 weeks traveling. All seems good on the home front (thanks to our house sitter) - but lots to do nonetheless.

I know 8 deg overnight isn’t that cold, but where we’ve been it hasn’t been below 20 deg at night for the last 2 weeks at least.

  • Glad to hear you are back safely from adventuring @mrcurly, enjoy settling back into regular life.

@Zappa I confess I did use scissors to open the package, does that count?

Very slow day here yesterday, caught up on lots of youtube channels I follow and chat with Aged Aunt late in the day.

Being Monday, spaggy bol for dinner, I very much enjoyed last night's documentary on Jane Austen on Auntie, which I discovered by accident. Before going to bed each night I always put the TV on that channel (before switching off) and was delighted there was actually something of interest to watch!!

Quick results from the biopsy taken last week. Not actual cancer, but some pre-cancerous cells were found, so I will have keyhole surgery to get rid of them in about 6 months time. Given the history this was the best outcome I could have expected.

At least it will be warmer by then. Today was sunny, but there wasn't much actual heat, and tomorrow's forecast is the same.

Seeing 7 papango (blackscaups) the small black diving ducks on the river when I walked home lifted my spirits.

    Glad you
Got your results, @Huia and that you can live with them - in all senses of the word!
  • Having your results is good @Huia, nothing worse than waiting, waiting. I am sure the time until surgery will be here before you know it, this year is really zooming by.

Lovely to have the ducks to watch, that is a real gift.
