The government will certainly hope that this week's royal schmooze-fest will make a positive impression on Trump, creating a feelgood factor for the UK.

It's an unusual and carefully crafted state visit. There's a crammed schedule squeezed into a day and a half, most of it dedicated to royal spectacles. Windsor is being used like a royal theme park.

Probably wise, if there is to be any chance of Trump taking any notice if any issues the UK government cares about.

Pictures going round of Trump at the 9/11 memorial looking like he has had a stroke. The right side of his mouth has obviously dropped. He is looking very ill. I would say an intervention is needed. He is supposed to be coming over here soon. I am not sure he will make it.

I wouldn't make this diagnosis based on one picture. He's old, and he's not well in the ways that old people tend not to be well. This doesn't mean he's going to die any time soon. Based on all the old people I've known, I think he could stroke out overnight or his life could drag out for several more years. For someone getting top-tier medical care, the chronic conditions of old age can be managed for quite a while, right up until they can't.

Trump loves all things royal. I think Charles will butter him to the hilt.

You may well be right. Charles III is a little less unshakeably diplomatic than Elizabeth II was, though. There is a slight possibility that he may blurt out what he actually thinks.

Well. we had a visiting family and the sound technician walk out of church today after our pastor, while speaking against the increasing violence rising in our country, also said Charlie Kirk's views were against the teaching of the church. He listed three examples: LGBTQ issues, immigration, and women's rights comparing them to the official positions of the ELCA. I did not notice the family walking out and was told about the sound technician after the service was over. I know the sound technician comes from a conservative background. The division is there.

We are a blue to blueish-purple congregational. No direct mention of the assassination was made in the sermon at our place, but in the prayers of the people we were called to pray for the family and friends of Charlie Kirk, for Tyler Robinson and his family and friends, and for “our American family.”
