  This takes me back. I (as a Lay Reader) was invited to preach at the Parish Communion one Sunday in Advent over 40 years ago! I was acquainted with the then Vicar, newly arrived from his inner-London previous parish.
  
  IIRC, there was a goodly turn-out at the Series 3 (!) Parish Communion, with a number of children in the choir and congregation, and the liturgy could best be described as open-evangelical tending to MOTR. Just as the MWer says, but with less in the way of explanatory interpolations...
