  • Re communion: I don't think Catholics do intinction. It has been my experience, though, that many if not most communicants pass by the chalice as if it weren't there.

    Strictly speaking, as a non-RC the reporter shouldn’t have received communion. (Not saying I agree with that policy, just saying it as it is)

    'Tossed the cracker into my mouth'. Hmm. This language would be offensive to many Catholics. It's not a cracker. in secular terms it is a wafer, in traditional Catholic language it is a host, meaning that it conveys the real prresence of Christ, and for that reason is to be handled reverently. It might show discretion and respect not to go up to communion in such a circumstance.

    It might be better if this reporter had done a modicum of homework in advance.
