    For accuracy, Charlotte Chapel doesn’t belong to the Baptist Union of Scotland, or any denomination. Belonging to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches gets closest to a corporate statement. 🙂

    It also seems a bit of an unnecessary slam against those of us who are Calvinists, albeit it not necessarily hard-core five-point TULIP Calvinists.

    Perhaps. But given that the answer to the next question—“Did the service make you feel glad to be a Christian?”—was “It sure made me glad to be an Episcopalian,” I’m afraid I didn’t read it as particularly joking.

    Perhaps I’m jaded by the fairly regular appearance on the Ship of disapprobation of Calvinism—almost always, as in this MW report, appearing to equate “Calvinism” with the so-called Five-Point TULIP soteriology constructed long after Calvin’s death.

    I’ll defer to your interpretation over my less generous one, though I do think it raises the question of if it was intended tongue in cheek, is it a joke a Calvinist would join in laughing over (yeah, I know—a laughing Calvinist?!) or is it a joke at Calvinists’ expense, a bit like the bully who says “can’t you take a joke?”
