  • There are versions of Linux which are somewhat lookalikes to windows 10. Designed to help people transition.
I also found replacing the HDD with an SSD speeded up my 12 year+ HP Pavilion desktop remarkably. And Linux found drivers for sound etc. that W10 did not.

I registered my laptop onto the extended programme last week. It had been nagging me for ages that it won't update to Windows 11 but I really didn't want to buy a new one as it works fine for what I use my laptop for. I probably will update next year, but am dithering whether to go for a Mac laptop instead as I have both and iPhone and an iPad.

That may be perfectly true if the sound device worked under Linux and not under W10. Though if it worked under both bear in mind that a lot of drivers are built into newer versions of Windows, and it won't explicitly call out if its using one of those.
