I can't find it now, but I've seen a video on YouTube of someone arguing that, in her state, they don't need to self isolate. Her reasons: they get plenty of sunshine there, and no one drinks Corona beer.
Lord, have mercy. Something else you really couldn't make up...
I bet she lives on every word that proceeds from the mouth of GodTrump.
A possible "good" outcome from Trump's bizarre suggestion that you can kill coronavirus by injecting yourself with disinfectant: The average IQ in the USA will rise as at least some of his dimmer followers follow his advice and kill not only any virus they carry but also kill themselves in the process.
As Walter Shaub, the former director of the Office of Government Ethics, is quoted as commenting: “It is incomprehensible to me that a moron like this holds the highest office in the land and that there exist people stupid enough to think this is OK. I can’t believe that in 2020 I have to caution anyone listening to the president that injecting disinfectant could kill you.”
Disinfectant Donnie is part rat, part chicken, part pig, 100% asshole. A turducken with a wig pretending to be human. As if a turd took a shit.
Brave Sir Donald ran away.
("Fake News!")
Bravely ran away away.
("It was SARCASM!")
When the press reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
("Enough!")
Yes, brave Sir Donald turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
To cross the road
Oh why did the Chicken Donald cross the road?
To drink some bleach!
(Goodly parts of this are spun in the blender of my mind from others' recipes)
Walter Shaub said 'It is incomprehensible to me that a moron like this holds the highest office in the land, and that there exist people stupid enough to think this is OK.'

Surely intelligent republicans who have gone along with him for expediency will now begin to rethink?
If you mean Congressional Republicans and the party hierarchy...I have grave doubts. Maybe individuals will see the light and act on it. But I have a little bit of hope that T's behavior re the pandemic, possible "treatments", etc., might nudge people to at least nudge T out of the way--for the sake of life and death survival.
But I'm not holding my breath.
Doctors are speaking up about the UV & bleach proposal, bluntly and making fun of him. IIRC, Bill Gates has called him on some things. ("Called" there doesn't mean on the phone, but rather speaking truth to someone. AKA "calling them on their sh*t".) And Bill Gates has done a *lot* of strategic health work in Africa. Etc., etc.
And there does seem to be a move to sideline him for the pandemic press conferences.
I suspect lots of people in his voting base, the ones who've bought into (what they see as) his reality, may never believe T could be massively wrong, broken, deluded, etc. At least some of them seem to truly believe that the whole thing is a hoax or plot against T. Which probably means a plethora of angry conspiracy theories for the next few generations.
Ah, Bill Gates. This may explain something I have been told as gospel in the last few days. One, Gates is funding a number of people in the UK Vaccine Network Panel, which is seen by my informant as a breach of being non-partisan. Two, a Gates vaccination programme in India was carried out without parental consent and resulted in many deaths. Three, Gates vaccinations can be linked to the administering of nano-chips to control the population.
The purveyor of this stuff is a very close friend, who trusts her sources more than Snopes. Trying to educate her is tricky for various reasons. I have no objection to Gates's involvement in vaccinations, and regard this as a good thing. I don't think she is actually an anti-vaxxer as opposed to an anti-Gates person. (I used to be, as he kept buying up stuff I wanted to be MS free for my computer.)
But if Gates is seen as being anti-Trump, that would make more sense of her sources' opposition to him. For political reasons.
There's enough material for a possible whole new Bill Gates Pro or Anti? thread there!
Back to Trump - if, as seems increasingly possible, the man is suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's, or whatever, perhaps he should be regarded as an object of pity and compassion, rather than obloquy.
(Did I really just say that?)
Anyway, he surely needs to be urgently removed from office, somehow, or at the very least, side-lined, so that the voices of sense and reason can be heard.
And what is this I hear about the November election possibly being postponed? The pandemic might indeed preclude it being held 'on time', but the thought of Trump continuing in office indefinitely is frightening, to put it mildly...
As a child in the 40s I often had bronchitis again and again and when the doctor had my mother bring me in for what were called sun lamp treatments I did get better. I have no idea what the lamp was but I do know that it worked and I was sick way less often.
Sun lamps were suggested for all sorts of things. As a result, all those kids were at higher risk of skin cancer.

Yes my dermatologist and I are good friends. Do you know what kind of light it was?

There's really no easy mechanism for doing so, as I explained elsewhere. This question seems to come up a lot, for some reason, almost as if Donald Trump and the Republican Party aren't trustworthy and have abandoned any commitment to democracy they might once have had.
I have UVB treatment once a year for my psoriasis. Under medical supervision. Have done since I was fourteen.
I start with thirty seconds exposure and move slowly to three minutes. Three minutes is the maximum. The course lasts a month, every January. It used to be in hospital (a real bore going to hospital for 30 seconds treatment!). Now they deliver the sunbed to my home and pick it up a month later.

Trump's all in a pout today, threatening to stop his daily briefings because, "The press keeps asking hostile questions." By hostile he seems to mean any question other than, "Mr President, how can we ever thank you for the tremendous and beautiful job you're doing?" Of course we'd all be better off without his daily hour of mumbling misinformation. Most curious of all is his charge that the press is misrepresenting his talks and it's all fake news. What? They televise the talks live.
But don't you realize that the Chinese -- or is it the Russians -- or perhaps the Ukrainians -- hack into news broadcasts with special filters that distort the words into something just the opposite of what was actually said?

It's pointless to speculate on how the US - and the world - might be dealing with The Plague, were Obama still POTUS.
Speculation is unnecessary. Obama dealt with the H1N1 outbreak in his first year in office and a large outbreak of Ebola in his second term. In both cases the disease was contained, not solely because of U.S. efforts, but America (and Obama) did that world leadership thing a lot of folks have come to expect from the U.S. (and its president).
Some countries still seem to possess it. Others, clearly, do not.
The best thing a Decent Leader could do in America right now - and the first, and most important, thing - would surely be to remove/gag/stifle/imprison Trump.
If that said Decent Leader could then spare a moment or two to deal with Little England's would-be Emperor, we would be most grateful.
I was thrilled that I wouldn't have to see that Orange Person's name on the stimulus check, since it would be deposited directly into my bank account. Imagine my surprise when I received in today's mail, a whole letter "from" the previously mentioned OP. It mentions how he 'proudly signed into law' the CARES Act.
Well, besides the eye-rolling from reading this letter (which is printed in Spanish on the other side...surprise!) I am wondering how much money went into printing and posting this unnecessary letter. Wouldn't the funds have been put to better use helping small businesses stay afloat, or buying PPE for all those who need it?
How many of you have received this? Just curious what y'all thought.
The British government sent out something similar a few weeks ago, and most of us thought "what a criminal waste of money that could be put to much better use" as well.

No letter for me. Just the check. It surprised me, though, as I was expecting direct deposit.

That is called using public money to fund your re-election campaign. Politicians of both stripes do it all the time in Australia and call it "public information campaigns". It's probably legal...

I never received one, I assume that means they realised it was a dumb idea halfway through and stopped.

Maybe but POTUS does not have a good record on stopping dumb ideas.
We've just had a small leaflet from the local council with contact details for local businesses that are still open and doing deliveries - much more useful, especially for those without Internet access. Also gives contact details for getting in touch with the council if you are in need of help.
...actually I think we did have The Letter from Boris a few weeks ago, but it went straight in the bin so it didn't really impinge on my consciousness.
Looks like tRump’s toddler tantrums are now aimed towards China.
Let’s hope the US checks on the president’s power hold up.
He must be utterly miserable just now. The economy slipping through his fingers, the virus refusing to disappear and no golf or long weekends in Florida. I wonder if McDonalds are closed in the states as they are here?
Oh joy! Guess who's ignoring self-isolating and blessing Phoenix with his presence next week!
He's visiting a Honeywell facility and is saying this is not a rally. But... it certainly indicates that he feels Arizona is a battleground state, both for the Presidency and the Senate.
And our choice for senate is between the utterly despicable Martha McSally and the noble and honorable Mark Kelly.
Which is why the Republicans are getting nervous. (After all, Ms. McSally lost the election two years ago and is only in the Senate because she was appointed to fill McCain's term after the voters had said they didn't want her.)
I've been supporting Mark Kelly since the day he announced his candidacy. I was delighted to be able to meet him at an event -- a year ago yesterday! (I just looked up the date.)
Now President Fuckwit thinks you can do a business deal with the virus. "Give a little. Do a deal with them" is entirely inappropriate language to use with the anti-lockdown protesters. The virus doesn't do give and take. It just does take.
You can, and should, listen to the genuine concerns of the people who want to open up. Where you can safely relax some of the constraints, you should do so. But to cast this in the mold of "doing a deal" is completely wrong.
Most of the time, he isn't capable of doing anything else. And IMHO he's even less functional than he used to be.
So unless someone gets through to him in a rare, good moment, and T makes a rare, good decision in that moment...T's handling of the pandemic and of the presidency aren't apt to get much better.

I noted in another post that Trump's term as president* expires at noon (Eastern Time) on January 20, 2021. There is no Constitutional provision for extending the term of a president other than reelection. There is, however, a legal mechanism for filling the presidency when it falls vacant.

Thx.
I confess I haven't been following the US election thread. My bad.
Presumably it works OK, for you?
Absolutely. It means I have to use the steroids far less.
I thought it was Obama.
But...one can at least dream...

Well, quite - unless the barmpot is saying that Covid-19 is even worse than Obama...
Because Obama is Chinese, duh.
