The new and upgraded Ship is indeed easier to use, and easier to read. But I do agree it feels quite impersonal, rather “corporate,” and the signatures and other tag lines did offer that personal touch on the earlier version. I enjoyed reading the thoughts of persons, not “opinion generators”. Anyway, it makes me feel antiquated to hear that some features were changed for the ease of the phone users. Yes, that is good, but….. So much of technology these days does indeed meet the needs of those with nimble minds and fingers who stay connected 24/7, but what about those of us who may no longer be using a quill pen but still have no ability at or interest in the newest technology? Are we to be shunted to the end of the line?

If you do not want to partake of a new feature or capability, you are not required to do so. We are not abandoning anybody's ability to participate if they already can do so, nor do we plan to.
I've noticed that I find those few sigs that are being added to posts very intrusive, having got used to no sigs. So much so that I'm avoiding those posters.
Yeah, I agree. They could happily appear to the right of the "quote" button under each post, in slightly smaller type. But I don't think they'd be useful on mobile, and I'd want a way to turn them off. I'm not convinced it's worth the effort!

They couldn't, happily or unhappily, because the quote button is a plug-in that doesn't allow for such a thing. And we did kinda want the quote button!
I'm still basking in the glow of being in the Ship's swimming pool at all, so I'm not thinking too much about things which I miss from my old cruise.
As for matching posts to people, I recognise many posters from the old Ship and aim off (their posts) accordingly. Others, new to me or with changed names, their personas are transmitted with their posts, for good or ill.
The Admins (the old ones from my day, I mean) are remarkably civil. Long may that last. Damascus Road meets the Ship. New ones, I say to myself, "How lovely that xx's hard work and contribution has been recognised".
I tend to use an iMac or iPad Pro for posting, and my iPhone only for reading. @Clarence who uses her iPhone finds the new software much more user friendly for mobiles.
Yeah, it would be easier to just see a bit more about a poster from their avatar or sig, but it's only one extra key click to look at a profile. And many Shipmates wailing here haven't done anything to make their profiles more informative. It is really, like, really easy, and there's loadsa space to personalise where you're from and who (within the bounds of privacy) you are.

‘Newest technology’ would probably be an immersive virtual reality in which we strod the decks of a hologram Ship ploughing a Hokusai-waved sea, and posts were simulated cannon fire exploding in pyrotechnic splendour with a smell of brine and cordite and burning timber. Mwaaaah! Want!
Whereas what we have is rather old technology with a lick of paint and some oil on the hinges. Ho hum.
I’m enjoying the new place, finding it much easier to use on phone and tablet (which is where I do most of my browsing these days).
If those in charge found a way to add some sort of additional personalisation to help identify posters, I’d welcome it, but I’m certainly not going to flounce without it.
Yes, much easier to use. I used to avoid posting with a tablet, but now it's a doddle. Sigs - I don't miss them really. I have the impression that I'm posting more, because it's so easy.
There is a lot less use of emojis, due no doubt to the labyrinthine difficulty of producing them, which makes the place feel less personal. A few :notworthy: and :killingme: smileys (among others) would perhaps make the place seem more like a home than a house.
The quote button is very big. It is the 2nd largest font size on the page, larger than user names, with superfluous quotation marks in the largest font size on the page to the left of the word "QUOTE".
I like the option of sigs.
Though I am certainly not posting less, and the Ship sails very smoothly, there is something less engaging about the feel. I am not completely sure why, though. Part of it will be familiarity and that will change over time.
Everything does feel "bigger". I think that is the, erm, biggest, change in the site feel.
Whilst it is cleaner and more contemporary, it sort of feels like the Duplo version.
