Good question, Alan. I have picketed Peter Dutton's offices, along with many other Christians of all denominations. Our treatment of lawful asylum seekers is a grave breach of international humanitarian law.
Though I'm sure you'll admit that your collective efforts haven't had a substantial impact yet. Much as the efforts of the political movements I'm directly involved in haven't managed to keep the UK in the EU.
I for one am not going to place blame at people who have done as much, often more, to counter the idiotic policies from the present Apprentice in the White House just because they have been no more successful than us.
But the Australian government is not an existential threat to the whole world in the unique way which USA is under this administration.
I wouldn't go so far as to say "existential threat". Though as an economic, cultural and military super-power I accept that US policy has a far greater impact on world affairs than my small island on the NW coast of Europe or your slightly larger island in the southern ocean. But, being lead into another economic down-turn by fiscal mis-management by Trumps loonies isn't an existential crisis. He and Kim can wave their dicks at each other as much as they like, but neither of them is crazy enough to do more than parade around looking tough for the benefit of their own supporters. Many US States have decided to get on with reducing their carbon footprints, ignoring Trumps tantrum about a treaty signed in Paris ... and if the US goes much of the way under his mis-Administration then the next person in the Oval Office won't have too much to do to get things back on track.
I was always Foaming Draught in a previous Ship existence, old hands know me by that moniker.
My statements are about the country, not its inhabitants en masse, and particularly not about Ohher or GK. Let's give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you can read, you'll see that I was supporting NP in that very contention. To pursue the issue now just risks inflaming what the Hosts very rightly saw as potential for a pond war, and very rightly pulled me up for it. So go back to bed.
Interesting. I wish I could say “Nice try,” FD, only this doesn’t even get onto the playing field. Your remarks are “about the country” but not “its inhabitants en masse?” So . . . who exactly are you addressing with "statements about the country?" National parks? Interstate highway systems? Public buildings? US Shipmates, most of whom expressly did not elect 45, because they did not vote for him? People who did vote for him, but are highly unlikely to be reading this thread?
As to “supporting NP” in his view, possibly you’re unaware that NP has been called out on at least one previous occasion for tarring Americans with a broad brush. Is that the view you wish to support? If so, that is precisely the grounds for this Hell call.
If you have content rather than generalized blame in mind, who here, regardless of nationality, disputes the fact that Cheeto is in office, or that his administration is a chaotic, lying, racist, thieving, destructive mess? Who here is arguing otherwise? We may differ about his posing an existential threat (I think he is; others do not), but that’s a matter of degree rather than type.
Bottom line: 45 has been excoriated for comments about Haiti, claiming that “they all have AIDS.” How does this remark differ in principle from claiming that the US is not a "sensible country" because “we” (whoever that is) elected this jerkwad to office – especially when this claim rests on a minority of voters in an election which has likely been compromised by a hostile foreign power?
If your intention is to apologize, this won't wash. Try again.
My original thought was that his intention was avoidance, but after re-reading his post, I conclude that he is just an arse looking for attention. He did drop a disclaimer, down at the bottom of his post.
Are you...(Various actions) ?
If you're not, don't give me this bs
So, he didn't paint everyone with the same brush. Though, given the style of the rest of the post, it is easy to miss. However, the non-arsehole reaction would be to quote that bit in response to clarify his statement. Attention, not clarity, is what he appears to be after.
I am not defending the fartgas-foam glass, the structure of his post appears more intentionally inflammatory than it could have been.
For what it's worth, I fall under his condemnation because I'm not marching. Though perhaps he would give me a pass for disability. But then, I'm not entirely sure I would be marching anyway, as I have better ways (for me, I mean) to spend my time (like talking to Trump supporters in an effort to turn them into former Trump supporters).
But hey, being condemned by such a post isn't exactly a black spot in my book.
In an earlier post I implied that every time I post something stupid or incoherent its because I live with bi-polar disorder. That is not true. Sometimes I just post stupid and/or incoherent things.

Likewise.
FD, try to apologize. It's not really that hard.
