For J and M, my neighbours. But a few years back, J was up a ladder painting the front of his house, but now has developing dementia and needs constant support from his wife M. She's had to have the bathroom changed so he can get showers. He can still manage the stairs, and can walk out with a Zimmer frame, but isn't keeping track of things any more.
Prayers, too, for Brother B, in hospital in the final stages of bowel cancer, but alert, and in no pain. His quiet acceptance of his imminent death, and his clearly-expressed faith in Our Lord, are an example to us all.
Pray for F, 8 year old daughter of friends in intensive care following a major seizure last night. A brain infection is suspected. For her and her parents J &S.
My church denomination, the United Methodist Church, will be convening in St. Louis for a special General Conference this weekend. The purpose is to discuss and vote on what direction the denomination will take on the question of ordaining LGBTQI persons and whether to allow those persons now ordained to perform same-sex marriages. Both of those are not currently allowed. There are several plans proposed, ranging from complete inclusion to an even more restrictive stance. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will be present and at work in the debate and interactions among delegates.
Please continue to pray for F (as mentioned above). She has not yet woken up and regained consciousness. Still in intensive care. Thank you for praying.
I have an interview next Thursday for a post that would answer prayers that I'd forgotten I'd even uttered. I do not interview well, and would value your prayers.
Asking for prayers for my friend V who is having tests to find out if her cancer has returned after almost five years in remission. ๐ฏ
Asking for prayers too for an old friend H who died last night. He has had dementia for the last decade so it feels as if we said goodbye a long time ago, but family and friends are only able to grieve now. ๐ฏ
Prayers for H. I think I can relate to your comment about grieving only now. I am one of a group caring for one close to all of us, diagnosed some years ago with dementia He has had a major downturn in the last couple of weeks which has caused a big mess from which we had to extricate him. He is sliding down to care which he will hate. No time to grieve while we deal with his muddles. He is N.
Glad to hear good news about F - may her recovery be swift and complete!
I can relate to H's situation, although sort of the other way round. My mum died after 10 years in hospital with progressive dementia (the last five or so when she really didn't seem aware of very much), and we were all surprised at how well Dad seemed to be coping, until we realised that he'd probably done most of his grieving when she went into hospital, as he knew she wouldn't be coming out.
Prayers for H's soul and for those who mourn him, and for V., and Loth's N.
Prayers for our (now ex-) Rector and his wife, who left us this morning to drive to their new parish in Rome. It will be an exciting time for us as a parish too, as we work out what kind of Priest it is we want/need/are going to be given by God (!!) In the meantime, as LLM, I'm going to be leading the Eucharistic services, with reserved sacrament. Quite a responsibility.
Yes,indeed, quite a responsibility. Been there, seen the video, etc. etc.
<<votives galore of extreme efficaciousness>> for all on this thread.
Please hoist up a prayer for Our Place, as our new priest-in-charge, Father J, takes up his post next Sunday. He comes highly recommended, with a long history of pastoral/parochial activity in Another Diocese, and we are looking forward to being led and encouraged by him. After more than two years in interregnum, we are, obviously, delighted.
Perhaps not coincidentally, our little congregation is growing by leaps and bounds, and this morning's Parish Mass had an age range of 6 months to 75 years, with 25% under 16......our two oldest members (95 and 85) were off gallivanting/jollificating with their families, having had their Leave Chits duly filled in beforehand....
Thank you! We are on a bit of a roll at the moment (as sometimes happens in most churches, I'm sure).
Our new Chap is house-for-duty, which in CofE-speak means Sundays-and-two-days-a-week, but quite how he uses those hours is up to him to decide, in conjunction with the Parochial Church Council.....
....so <votive> that we arrive at a mutually-satisfactory arrangement, cuz we don't want him to overdo things, and get burned out!
I am about to set out for my mother's funeral which is stressful enough for wider family reasons but in addition I have just heard that our grandson Little Beaky is very unwell indeed and has been taken to hospital. It feels like too much at one time .........
I took my usual very early walk this morning, This is when I pray for shippies. There was the faintest hint of dawn in the sky, the moon and stars hung over the mountains, the air was crisp - frosty - the owls were hooting and two deer ran over the path. And I prayed for the peace and beauty of the dawn for my friends on these boards, especially MadCat's asks, Rossweisse, Mrs Beaky, Lamb Chopped, Eutychus (see pet thread) and Gamma.
