    I am, too, Ross. She's nearly 80, I think.

Poor D-U feels so embarrassed by the whole debacle.
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host
I hope she doesn't blame herself.
  • jedijudyjedijudy Heaven Host, 8th Day Host
I think she understands that since she is so lightweight, and the crowd was so forceful, there wasn't much she could do to prevent it. But it obviously is still on her mind. Poor Sweetheart.

But otherwise, she is so pleased that she was able to take the trip! Her favorite place was Switzerland, and the next time she's in France, hopefully with her dear hubby, they'll stay in the countryside and only take one or two day trips into Paris.

The girls were like little kids playing in the Swiss snow!

Where did our cool weather go? It's hot again. AC is on. Right now, it's 83 degrees in the shade of my oak.

Christmas was awesome! The best part, of course, was having family here! Granddaughter-Unit and her mom were here yesterday, so an extended celebration!

One of the coolest things was bought by D-U and her dear hubby for all of us. It's a lamp that's hooked up to WiFi. When I touch it, mine and the others at my parent's home, D-U's house, and G-U's house will all turn blue! Each home has a different color, so we know that one of the family members is thinking of all of us when it changes color. D-U is SO clever! :) <3

You shipped it off to Phoenix. The high for the day has only been in the 50s for the past couple of days, and the lows have been in the 30s at night. For Phoenix that's downright frigid! It's supposed to rain New Year's Day.
  • jedijudyjedijudy Heaven Host, 8th Day Host
Miss Amanda, maybe we scared it off with all our dancing and merrymaking. :(
  • Amanda B ReckondwythAmanda B Reckondwyth Mystery Worship Editor
    Doubtless.

Meanwhile, now that 2018 is over, I can officially say that it was the only year in recent memory that I got through without needing any major dental work (bridge failing, needing replacement; cavity requiring root canal; old root canal gone bad, requiring extraction; fractured tooth requiring surgical removal). Let's hope my luck continues to hold in 2019.
  • Fingers crossed for you Miss Amanda.
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host
I hope 2019 is a medically carefree year for you, Miss Amanda.

Thank you. My troubles are nothing compared to yours. I can't tell you how spiritually uplifting your positive attitude is for all of us. Blessings upon you and yours.
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host
    Thank you! Blessings back atcha.

  • Holy Hell Batman, big storm came through with high winds and rain. Trees down flooding of small streams. So far all of our drains are open and trees upright. Not so good for neighbors on the bottom of our hill.
  • Good grief! Hope everyone is okay.

The news on tv had horrendous pictures of damage from rain and wind, Graven Image. I echo Climacus' hope!!

We'll get a bit of rain, much needed, on Sunday. I really need to stay home enough to water and feed my poor plants!

Thankfully in our neck of the woods no humans hurt, that I have heard. There was some property damage and minor flooding near by. Mr Image allowed the dog on the bed during the worst of it. Not sure if it was for the dog's comfort or ours. Gentle rain all day today.

We had a nice thunder-boomer this morning! Two rains in one week! And that water sure is welcome.

We're supposed to get cool again, and the sun has been shining for a few hours, but when I went out to do a chore, I was getting sprinkled on! Way out to the west was a wispy cloud and the sprinkles must have been carried by the wind all that way. I looked to the east, and sure enough, there was a half of a fat, bright rainbow!
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host
We're in a brutal cold spell, with ferocious winds to make it even better. It's a good time to stay hunkered down indoors.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
It's been unseasonably mild today (+9°C/49°F) and absolutely chucked rain most of the day, which has turned the snow into huge puddles interspersed with Patches of Treachery™. :flushed:
  • LydaLyda Shipmate
Windy and mild here in SoCal. And good news! :joy: The Sierra Nevada snow pack is at 110% of normal levels and our local reservoirs are respectably filled, though I wouldn't mind a few more mild storms. The drought isn't really broken (we need a few more winters like this one) but we can feel a bit more optimistic.
  • RuthRuth Shipmate
I saw that report too - good to know we'll have drinking water this summer!
  • LydaLyda Shipmate
    Amen!
  • jedijudyjedijudy Heaven Host, 8th Day Host
We had almost four inches of rain yesterday! But it is so cold!! I put an extra quilt on my bed last night and will definitely do it again tonight.

My blood is way too thin for this. (46 degrees? Really??)
  • LydaLyda Shipmate
Big rain (for SoCal) is coming Thursday through Monday. This is very, very likely to include flooding. :fearful: I pray that no one's house falls in on them or boulders fall on houses and cars.

I would kill for your four inches of rain and 46° (that would be about 8°C?) - it would get rid of the sn*w.
  • jedijudyjedijudy Heaven Host, 8th Day Host
    @Piglet, come on down! :grin:
If I remember my guzintas correctly, our four inches of rain would equate four feet of snow! I have vague memories of such snowfalls when I was young. That was enough for my lifetime!
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host
    The temperature is steadily dropping...

It depends on how wet and heavy the snow is.

I know where the heat has gone. Down here. After a couple of days of milder weather, the temperature is climbing again for a few days. Cool change is expected at weekend with temps in 20s Celsius.

February is the month for humidity down here so a way to go really before reasonable temps.
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host
@Lothlorien, if only we could average out our temps!
  • Good news about the CA water supply.

I read a polar vortex is on its way to some locations with unbelievably cold temperatures. Stay safe, all.
  • RossweisseRossweisse Hell Host, 8th Day Host
Hey, the numbers on my weather station have climbed up into the single digits above zero!

And CA has three more storms coming in the next five days for good measure. Saturday's is going to be particularly generous with its water (Heaven help us!)

Whenever I hear about California, I am reminded of a quote from my favorite novel, Thornton Wilder's The Bridge of San Luis Rey. In it, Brother Juniper muses on the effectiveness of prayers for rain, and how after "declaiming the splendid ritual" he would often see clouds forming on the horizon. Even so, "But there were times when weeks went by . . . but why think of them? It was not himself he was trying to convince that drought and flood are wisely apportioned."

Trouble is, California seems to get nothing else but drought or flood. No in between. :frowning:
  • In my neck of the California woods we are getting snow for the first time in 6 years, and we are due 5 days of it. I will need to drive off my mountain on Friday, amid snow and freezing rain. Fingers crossed. I can enjoy the white stuff if I can stay at home. I have covered all the tender plants with towels, so my yard at night looks like it is full of Halloween ghosts.

Go carefully, GI! I take it if you only get snow once every few years you haven't got snow tyres on your car?
  • I grew up on the East Coast Piglet so have snow driving experience but have not driven in it for 40 or so years. You are right no snow tires or chains. Our usual snow every 6 years for so is a light sprinkle gone by noon. This is a whole new ball of wax, and most of the county is new to snow as well. I plan to drive with care.
  • Happy Dance, new report is that snow does not start until late Friday afternoon, I will be home by then. Ready with wood stove, stacked wood, food and plenty of blankets. What a relief. May all travelers be safe.
  • jedijudyjedijudy Heaven Host, 8th Day Host
Graven Image, that's such great news!
We're hot, hot, hot here. I think last week was all the winter we get. :frowning:
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
While I'm a bit rubbish at heat, when you've had snow more-or-less continually since the beginning of November, the idea of winter only lasting a week does have a certain appeal ...
  • Ha ha.

I never knew there were deer in the Florida Keys! Hope their population remains safe.

Got this chart (I subscribe to visualisation resources) in my inbox:

  • jedijudyjedijudy Heaven Host, 8th Day Host
Climacus, I know you must have been surprised to know that they're called Key Deer! Just kidding!

Key Deer are about the size of a medium-sized dog. We do not want to lose the adorable beasts.
  • We are having what they are calling an atmospheric river of a storm. Streams are swelling over the banks and drains from the roof are overflowing and the dog is refusing to go out. I seem to have a small dog with a very large bladder. I can not say I blame her. Inside we are high and dry, just hoping the electricity stays on, but wood stove is ready if needed.

 I don't think we're getting anymore winter weather here. One of the reasons we suffer through summer heat and humidity is because December through March is usually beautiful; highs in the mid-70s and lows in the mid-50s. We are warned that the heat will be continuing through at least ten days.

I'm hoping to go to one of the local swamps to see the irises in bloom soon. I saw a few flowers as I went down the road Sunday. They are so pretty!
  • MooMoo Kerygmania Host
A freezing rain/ice storm is predicted for tomorrow. I had had some plans, but now I intend to stay holed-up all day.
  • Stay safe! Is February usually a troublesome month, weather-wise?

    Love seeing the flowers bloom.

Saw this and thought it may raise a laugh: http://www.eyeofthetiber.com/2019/02/19/pope-michael-declares-emergency-to-install-communion-rails/
  • Flooding all around us but we sit high and dry. As much as I am enjoying the home stay with cozy fire and relaxing day, I am praying for those down below whose houses are on rivers and creeks, that the waters do not crest and flood them. Near us it is only 9 inches below flood stage.
  • Oh my. I had not heard of this. Can I ask what area it is in?

Best wishes for a stop to the rains.
  • Northern California above San Francisco. Many areas now flooding.
  • Thanks. I hope normality and clement weather returns soon.

It seems to be a famine or a feast in parts of California - one minute you're getting forest fires, the next you've got floods.

    Prayers ascending for your safety.

I suppose the plank in the White House would say the floods are down to poor management as well ... :rage:

    Sorry - rant off!
