Somewhere in the mists of time Penny said the plan was to not admit D back into her house after the next hospitalization (which is the one now) in order not to go through the drama and pain to of having D evicted. This plan seems to go have gone by the wayside. Ironically you couldn't do this in California. If a person lives with you as their primary residence for two weeks you have to legally evict them to get them out even if they are not paying rent or are not on a lease.

The elephant in the room is that Penny does not believe her friend can handle taking care of his mother and "as a friend" Penny has taken on the load. She has made his responsibility her responsibility. Maybe he really can't. Maybe he is mentally or emotionally ill. So all that is left for him to do is feel sad and guilty and paralyzed. Penny can feel like a good Christian martyr, a good friend, and at the same time put upon. D can be waited on hand and foot while triumphantly complaining that she is badly treated.

And I can't tear my eyes away from this train wreck.
