As I said earlier, giving up on someone is always an option, once you judge they are incorrigibly bigoted. If after reflection and venting, that's where you're at, so be it. I'm not counselling perfection.

It may be something about me. I think I'm quite strongly influenced by an observation by a 19th Century missionary reflecting on a nonconformist schism. Something along these lines.

"I would rather remain in fellowship with someone, no matter how flawed I perceive them to be, for the sake of the spark of light I see within them, than separate from them and by so doing, also do something to put out that spark".
I do not expect perfection. If one rejects those who fail perfection, one would need to reject all, including oneself. It is the presentation of oneself that is often the issue.

I feel that way about a number of, to me, deeply flawed ex Shipmates. I don't miss their BS. But in a strange way I do miss them. I find it hard to give up on people. Even when I've been on the receiving end of their hurtful BS.

But I respect other people's limits.
That you are a better person than I am, there is no doubt.
However, you mentioned projection on another thread, and I agree that this is an issue. But we likely disagree what is being projected by whom.

As an addon to my post about attitudes. "Attitude" is why black people receive harsher sentences than white people. And why they are arrested more often in the first place. That "attitude" supports trans discrimination in the use of public toilets. There is no such thing as a level of predicted that is unharmful.

IngoB seemed at best to be a pedantic asshole.

Can we stop the discussion of a former member who is no longer around to defend himself or otherwise respond to what’s being said about him please.

I don't think that's the point Marvin. As I posted on the previous page: their point is to ensure it's precisely understood that I'm just like him.
I've understood fully the IngoB discussion here.

So I suppose in the sense of "message received and understood" it'd be okay to stop it. Like I get it already.

Speaking for myself, I don't see the resemblance. I'm also not persuaded that was the intended message. I know I didn't have you in mind, NP, when I posted what I did about the former Shipmate.
  • Yeah, okay. My patience has official worn thin. NP is allowed to have faults of their own, without invoking the spirits of long-departed shipmates. Cease and Desist.

But you are not just like him. You are a generally decent bloke with the occasional tendency to get hyper-focused on a particular bit of some issues.
I don’t think it is always noticed, but this time it was.

Apologies Doc. My fault for the reminiscence which started all that.

Try me! Mind you, you're probably right.
