It's very hot here today, and I could do with being considerably further north than I am:

Helmsdale would be a good start.
  • A little nearer to home, you could try Churchill - if the trains have started running again.

  • Liverpool (Lime Street)
  • Monument (for St. Clements)

    Bank

    Mind the gap.
  • "Via escalator connection", of course.

    Monument (Tyne & Wear Metro).
  • Given that move how could I resist the Northern Saints so Bede
  • Beal (for the Lindisfarne causeway).
  • SipechSipech Shipmate
Another kind of cause way would be Cable Street, for which the nearest station is Shadwell.
  • Monkwearmouth Station - for one of the monasteries linked to Bede.
  • Blackfriars.
  • Since the Queen has a birthday this year, I can straddle and go to South Kensington.

Hello RA - long time no see - welcome back! :)

Meanwhile, back at the game, seeing we're getting towards the posher end of the Monopoly board:

    Knightsbridge

  • It's good to be back Piglet.

With no R in the month I'm unblocked, so Earls Court.

The great Roy Hudd lives in Suffolk. There's no station in his village, so Needham Market will have to do.

Shall we move on to Diss not to be confused with the city of Dis
  • A poetic diversion (by John Betjeman): https://tinyurl.com/y5qmushp

Thanks for that, BT - I love his poetry.

Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough!
  • Well, I did think of taking you to Witham from Diss, but wasn't sure it was a good place to go over the weekend with various news feeds full of accounts of a stabbing.
  • SipechSipech Shipmate
I should say it would be good to go and help clear up after the celebrations around St John's Wood last night, provided engineering works permit.

Or, if you are feeling less helpful, simply St. John's - you can make the choice between south-east London, the Isle of Man or Newfoundland, though only one has trains these days.
  • St John's is the closest station to ken's church, where his funeral was held. And remembering ken, whose blog was called The view from Nunhead Station, let's head to Nunhead station

And logically on to Seven Sisters (see what I did there?)

    However: Six Bells Halt (Abertillery).
  • Five Ways (Birmingham)

    BT liked the poem also

Staying in the West Midlands: Four Oaks..

I'm glad people liked the poem. The "Mary Wilson" to which it was written was Betjeman's friend, the wife of the Prime Minister Harold Wilson. However, Diss is nowhere near "the grey North Sea" - he should have chosen the East Suffolk Line for that!

Well, that's got us into a pickle, hasn't it - I don't think there are any "Two ..." stations! However we are saved as, on Portugal's Western Line, there is a little station called "Dois Portos" (or "Two Ports").

    ????? (bemused).
    Nunhead ... sisters ...?

I can't think of a station with "one" in it, unless Stonehaven counts, which I've decided it does.

  • Pushing things a bit, though ...? However, that does allow us to proceed to Chalfont & Latimer (change for Chesham).
  • and on to Jewellery Quarter Birmingham (using my last silver moon piece)
  • Brilliant! Moving towards 'Sarfend' we get Chafford Hundred Lakeside.
  • SipechSipech Shipmate
Sounds like a character from a P.G. Wodehouse book.
Best head on to Dagenham Heathway, I suppose.
  • And another character would be Gerrard Cross
  • And what might we do with Martins Heron? (No apostrophe, sadly).
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Will King's Cross satisfy your (perfectly understandable) desire for an apostrophe?
  • Yes. However we might argue over the correct spelling of this station: https://tinyurl.com/y5dl8txd. I mean, if the Tube people can't make up their mind ...
  • Metamorfosi
  • That makes me want to cry, "All change!" - which clearly means Colindale.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
Bother. I thought "all change" meant we were at Crewe.

But I'm well known for having a sense of direction that would make Captain Slow from Top Gear look like an actual sat-nav.
  • Since we seem to be going into the West, Arisaig

One should be wary of heading anywhere further west than Vauxhall.
  • Or further east than Shoreditch.

I’m not sure how I feel about all these new-fangled innovations. Time for a more traditional move, methinks.
