Weird thing. If I press the Quote button whilst reading on my iPhone(iOS 11.3), I cannot scroll up the page. When I try, the page will force its way down to the quote box.

    (Quotes using iPhone)
    What browser are you using?
    Sorry. Safari.
  • Doesn't happen in Opera, but the Ship sails slooooooowly in that browser.

Update and more info on the problem. It occurs after editing the quoted text in the quote window. I was deleting extraneous text.
It can happen in Opera, but not as regularly as Safari and Opera unsticks more easily. One can unstick by clicking outside of the quoteWindow. Which Sometimes works with Safari. Chrome and Firefox behave similarly to Safari.
  • I have found it difficult editing quoted text on a Windows phone too - using Chrome.

Not a major issue, or perhaps one at all.

Strangely when I tried to use the tag #jesus, the hash popped off and I was left with Jesus. The other 2 tags remained with hash.

I edited and tried again. Same result. Are deities immune from hashes?

    Amen!

I feel a new worship song coming on :naughty:

  • Is that a description for Christian Socialists?
  • Why would you want to not quote whichever post for which you hit "Quote" anyway?
In iOS I have to scroll down to find my Quote box, but otherwise it's no different to MacOS.
If Shipmates have continuing problems with iOS quotes, post them here, and I'll show you how to fix them. As for the board's mods, they're unnecessary, iOS is fine for every type of post or response on any device.
  • Why would you want to not quote whichever post for which you hit "Quote" anyway?
One might not want to use the entire text of the post in a reply.
It is a common posting technique, one that makes the reply clearer in many cases.
  • One might also wish to scroll back up to reference said post, to possibly quote other posts within the same reply.

Not elegant, but if you can't access the thread while typing a reply, but if you save the draft then leave the reply box back to the thread clicking quote on another post should add that to the bottom of the saved draft and reopen the reply box.

  • yes, there are workarounds. Inelegant is an excessively polite way to describe them, though.
  • Thank you for adding Preview to the editing window.

All right, I gotta lay off the crack. I thought I saw a preview button on my mobile when editing a comment. I just tried it this morning and it wasn't there.

One I wish some people would learn.

Maybe that's because the tag jesus already existed?

I think these links just help to search for tags. You can only register a tag when you start a thread.

Ah...so it does. Thank you, o wise one.

I have a question about notifications. Are they sent to my email? I just checked my profile and found 32 notifications. None of them came to my email (checked spam folder) Around the time of the launch of the new Ship I changed the email associated with my account and received two notifications from the admins st that time.

Any ideas??? I would hate to miss a PM because I forget to check my own profile every time I come to the Ship. Seems like that defeats the purpose of notifications. Thanks.

Missed the edit window. I see that I accidently bookmarked a thread and that accounted for 30 of the notifications mentioned in my last post.

Do I remember reading that there will be no way to know if someone sends you a PM? Or is the problem of my notifications going into the ether still an issue?
  • If you go to the notification preferences you can select what you want notifications for, and how to receive them (eg: a pop up message, an email, or both). If you want an email notification of PMs select the relevant tick box, alternatively if you don't want any notifications at all deselect all the options.
  • sabinesabine Shipmate
Thank you so much, Alan. I see that my preferences we're set for a pop up. I think that is a default and my phone must have suppressed the pop ups. I've changed to email.

    Appreciate your patience.
  • Yes, the pop-up notifications are suppressed on the mobile version. Added to which, the notification/PM icons aren't displayed. At least that's how it works on my phone.
  • Not a snag as such, but is there a way of deleting draft comments? I've got one that doesn't seem to want to go away, and I'm nervous of posting it by accident! (Only because it doesn't make sense, not because it's offensive or anything.)
  • The "My Drafts" option lists all your current drafts. There is an almost invisible cross at the top right next to each draft listed, click that and say bye-bye to the unwanted draft.
  • Thanks Alan - it is almost invisible!
  • Back on the Old Ship when announcing the features of the new place @Eutychus did promise invisible buttons.

I'm sure I'm being even denser than usual, but I don't seem to be able to delete my own posts on any boards other than AS - I had an accidental double-post in the Circus, but couldn't delete the extra one.

Is this universal, or am I missing something?
  • Us normal oiks can only delete drafts. Everything else we're stuck with - although we can edit to say, "oops, didn't mean to post this here" if we spot it in the 6 minute edit window.
  • Am I mistaken or is there no delete draft feature in the mobile version?
  • You can delete drafts in the mobile version - I've just tried drafting something, saving it then deleting on my phone.

This is universal. Once something is posted with this software, it takes moderator or admin powers to totally remove the post. As people totally unaffected by this annoying occasional-looking-like-a-dufus aspect, we Admins have decided that it's fine.

Where do you delete it? I don't find a My Drafts on mobile and when I delete it in the posting window, it just comes back.

    Because it isn't occasional?

Where do you delete it? I don't find a My Drafts on mobile and when I delete it in the posting window, it just comes back.
At the top of the page there's a slightly darker bar, with an icon with three horizontal bars on it. Click that icon and it'll open a menu that corresponds to the menu at the top right of the non-mobile version (with links to your profile, inbox bookmarks etc ... including drafts).
  • I also find the My Drafts, Recent Posts and other headings below the board threads. I only see My Drafts when I have drafts.

First place I looked. Not there in Safari iOS 11
I see: Categories, Discussions, lilBuddha, Inbox, My Bookmarks and Sign Out. And it isn't under any of those that I can find either.
    Minor annoyance.

It would be among that list if you had any drafts currently saved, between My Bookmarks and Sign Out. If you don't have any drafts then that option is not displayed.

Um, yeah, kinda figured that out.
I just found where Drafts resides. It is at the very bottom of the page. I’d never scrolled that far down. What is the right side panel on the desktop is down below in mobile Safari
And I just see that CK mention that location.

I'm suddenly having a consistent problem with being logged out; when I attempt to log in, the program tells me that my password is invalid. I have to say I've forgotten it and then reset it, and then it lets me in. This has been going on for several days. Can someone help? I haven't changed any of my settings.

  • peasepease Tech Admin
One thing to check is that you're always using the https version of the forums URL (eg in any bookmarks or saved links).

Just because my computer is doing something similar but not identical because I had to reset the password because I forgot it. It seems to tell me every time I come here that I have not reset the password quick enough and need to ask for a new one. I know this is false and when I look closer I am already logged in, so I just click on the forums link.

Weirdness. Whilst typing in the comment box, a semi-transparent box appeared on the left side of the screen. Dark grey with boxes containing text and code, including by board name. Disappeared only after clicking on a link out to another page.

Sounds like an Inspect or Source box. Perhaps you inadvertently hit a control-sequence.
  • I've just tried to start a new thread in Ecclesiantics. When I pressed the button to post, I got an error message that said:
    { "Code": 403, "Exception": "You need the Garden.Community.Manage permission to do that.", "Class": "Gdn_UserException" }

Any clue about what has happened?

(I've been blocked from starting the thread but at least I have the draft saved.)
  • Now - having gone back out from Ecclesiantics and then gone back to the draft, I have been able to create the new thread OK. Strange....
