What! Ae you sure? After 100 years of taking their pay and not doing anything to represent anyone who has elected them? If so, that would mean we live in even stranger times than I thought.
SF MPs do represent their consituents. They don't take their seat in the House of Commons but they do everything but that.
And people vote for them knowing they won't take their seats.
Added to which, SF MPs don't get paid (or, they take their pay of £0 if you like). For the purposes of everything else they do they do claim some expenses - they maintain an office in Westminster with some staff there and a London flat for when they're in town, as well as constituency offices.
He was filmed slouching nonchalantly across the Front Bench during the recent debate, incurring opprobrious epithets, and the contempt of Green MP Caroline Lucas.
The wretched man didn't even have the grace to look ashamed, or to sit up when told, such is his arrogance...
I think the link to BBC News showing this has now disappeared.
He has also used Parliamentary privilege to attack Dr David Nichols who took him to task on radio about the effects of a no deal Brexit on the supply of medical material from the EU and thus on the well being of patients. And Johnson has criticised him for that.
Being compelled to use terms like "Right Honourable Gentleman" for such people makes one realise how correct the Quaker witness against titles is.

JRM looking to take over when ABdPJ throws in the towel? I suppose they could be working through the worst possible leaders now so that once they're through the only way is up .
They are so awful, I keep doing reverse logic, that it's part of a master plan by Cummings to do a Trump. Mogg's insults to that doctor, Boris's shambolic manner, turfing out venerable Tories, losing his brother. Is this as bad as it looks, or is he after the Farage vote? Their calculation seems to be that 35% of the vote is guaranteed, and the opposition is divided. Dunno.
Rt Hon Jacob Rees-Mogg is an absolute disgrace and must apologise forthwith.
What's the Member for the 18th Century done now?
Just to be clear I am fucking furious that he has used Parliamentary Privilege to slander a doctor who dared to warn of the dangers of No Deal. He suggested that the expert, Dr Nicholl who was asked by the government to look at the risks of medicine shortages was scaremongering and then compared him
to the disgraced Dr Wakefield who faked data, conducted unethical research, has been struck off and now lives in the US making large amounts of money out of pretending vaccines cause autism and his vitamin pills are a cure.
Thanks folks - I think it was the comparison of Dr. Nicholls with the anti-vaxxing bloke that I'd missed.
I've just seen film footage of Dr. Nicholls outside Parliament with a megaphone, challenging Mogg to say what he said outside the chamber. Somehow, I doubt he'll get a satisfactory response.
<snip>then a large swathe of the electorate is going to draw the lesson that prolonged demonstration and agitation is the best way to get what one wants, <snip>
I do think Boorish has been a little unwise in saying he would rather be dead in a ditch than still be in the EU after the 31st October. A gift for his critics I feel.

I suggest we dig him a ditch in front of a bulldozer near heathrow. Two lies with one ditch.
As for the only way being up in terms of tory leaders: don't count on it. Peter Bone is still out there, along with David Davies (not Davis, who while being thick as mince does have some principles that aren't solely venal). And Mark Francois. The tory backbenches certainly don't lack for "talent" in this regard. It's also worth mentioning that for all the lionising of the likes of Ken Clarke, the man spent decades whoring himself to BAT while they were busy pushing nicotine addiction on the young and poor of the world.

Oh yes.
One of the things that upsets me so much at the moment is that Ken Clarke is so clearly on the side of the angels... He was a terrible Education Secretary, an awful Health Secretary (though not in Lansley or Hunt's league) and a mediocre chancellor who thinks Brown was just doing what he did.... but compared to much of the Tory party he's an absolute hero....

It's like one of those optical illusions where green looks like red because of the other colours surrounding it.
The old joke was that there were safe Tory seats where a pig wearing a blue rosette would win. Rushcliffe was held to be where this had actually happened.

Not forgetting VAT on domestic fuel...
I keep spotting half-references, and I'm sure I heard on the radio this morning, that Grease-Mogg has been forced* to apologise to the doctor, but I'm damned if I can find a decent reference anywhere.

The Labour Party have now confirmed that they will not agree on Monday to Piffle's request for a General Election. And he can't try again later because of the prorogation that was such a clever wheeze when he thought of it.
Why agree to an election at all, ever? Piffle is now, hilariously, Jeremy Corbyn's puppet, unable to get anything at all through the House without the agreement of the Opposition, and also unable to throw in the towel. He has carefully painted himself into a corner, and will now face the humiliating consequences.
If they won't agree even if the "request an extension" bill has passed (I don't know if this is the case) then Boris' argument that they (too) are abusing the democratic process instantly gains more traction with me. It might be hilarious but the perversion and destruction of how Parliament is supposed to work is anything but.

It's yet another fine example of how wonderful this "sovereignty" thing really is. The Brexiteers wanted to bring sovereignty back, they have found it was already there, but it wouldn't play their tune. Boo fucking hoo.
That's the wrong kind of sovereignty. They didn't mean Parliament, they meant the sovereignty of the wind-swept arable deserts of East Anglia, where plain white Englishmen say what's what.

The opposition parties have repeatedly said they won't agree to an election until an extension is in place. Passing the bill is not the same as having an extension in place (though it's a key step towards that point).

Given BoJo's previous form as a liar, liar pants on fire, you can hardly blame them for insisting that the bill is not only law but enacted before agreeing to anything he asks.
Who'd have thought that being considered completely untrustworthy could have such negative consequences?! Or that the amazing idea of shutting Parliament down for weeks could go off in your face so speculatively? Bet they never wargamed that outcome.
And, having not spotted this last night, it completely made my day this morning ... #PleaseLeaveMyTown

I think it all but assures No Deal. If the GE is immediately post-Brexit the long-term effects will not have been felt; Boris will, à la Trump, be able to say that he fulfilled his central "do or die" promise, and have vapourised the Brexit party's raison d'être, thus, coupled with his propaganda machine, I would guess, ensuring a Tory win. Who's laughing now?
I disagree. Boorish has over shot this time. The bill to get a no deal Brexit had every chance of getting through. If he will not go to the EU he could be in serious personal trouble and be dropped like a stone.
An early election is a risk on all sides. It is not a forgone conclusion
If the EU refuses the request for an extension - which is in the realms of possibility but would totally screw over Ireland and make it easier for the Tories to spin it as All The EU's Fault - then the Kinnock amendment says that May's deal must be returned to the House for another vote.
If it comes down to the choice of that or no deal, then it might actually pass this time ...
But unless BoJo / Dom can come up with a wizard wheeze, then there isn't going to be an election until November.

Not one of those three words applies.
Well he is (far) right. Like Lord Haw Haw.
JRM has also caused additional anger when he equated a doctor - who confronted him during a radio interview about the medical risks of no deal - with a disgraced anti-vaxxer.
He did so in Parliament - which means he can’t be sued for the remarks.
Yes, that's the one.
How long, O Lord, how long?
Yeah. They call it a leadership contest.

Where’s Jeremy Hunt when the country needs him?
Right, and how has Westboro's posturing changed policy?
I suggest we dig him a ditch in front of a bulldozer near heathrow. Two lies with one ditch.

Excellent. His record of doing the exact opposite of what he says means we can look forward to his resignation.

No bill is required to secure a No Deal Brexit.
Nothing is required to 'secure it'.
It's.The.Default.
Poor Eutychus must be fed up saying this.
Forcing him to ask for an extension is not the same thing as him obtaining one.
And I've made a meme now.
Which is where it could get "fun".
