Is there any way of tweaking the software so that highlights such as links appear in a colour other than red? Red is nigh-on black to many people who are colour blind (i.e. 1 in 12 men, 1 in 200 women). For some reason, the problem seems worse on these boards than it was on the old ones. Several times now I've read words like "Here's a link" and thought, "Where?"

I should also say, other and probably better solutions would include visual cues other than colour, such as underline or bold. If only colour cues are available, a lighter shade of red would work for most people (many colour blind people seem to perceive shade better than non-colour blind). If it has to be a colour, then blue would be pretty good, though it might still be a problem for the small proportion of colour blind people with tritanopia.
And if we can't do any of those things, I'd happily take on the job of wandering round the Ship encouraging people to use something like "Here's a link called Linky McLinkface" rather than just hiding it in an ordinary sentence.
Adeodatus I think (warning: I don't have a Windows PC here to try it on) that in IE one can use 'internet options' to change the display colours for links (and that Firefox does something similar). I have never used Chrome so don't know. Safari is not so user-friendly; you need an expert for that. [Not meaning that your request is not the better way, as it would help more people, just trying to think laterally.]

I don't think Chrome has such a thing - open to suggestions if I just haven't looked hard enough. It (and Windows 10) have colour enhancement tools, but they enhance everything and it just looks weird. I really don't like them.

Irritating, to say the least. I had a look last night and Microsoft Edge should let you change the link colours, if you use Windows 10. (Still only a sticking plaster solution, of course.)
You should have a list of general preferences to notify you of pms, when someone posts on your discussions etc. The bottom of those is "when people comment on discussions I've participated in", uncheck the boxes next to that and the notifications should stop. You could uncheck all the boxes and get no notifications at all if you wish.
Thanks, Alan. That checkbox would stop notifications from all discussions I've participated in AIUI? It would appear there is no thread-specific mute option. Use of the new bookmarks may be an alternative.
This relates to a request I posted earlier but what is the quickest way to get to the last post on a thread? I can’t seem to find anything that doesn’t involve masses of scrolling.
The default is to go to the first unread post. I'm not sure, but if you go to a thread (the first unread post) it will then assume you've read everything. Go back to the board index, and then follow the link again and you'll be at the last post. Not convenient, but will save masses of scrolling (of course you'll then need to do massive amounts of scrolling to read the posts prior to the last one).
Am I imagining things or are the magic faeries (or more likely software) actually taking me to the last post I read when I click on a thread? If so I'm very impressed.
I miss "Most Recent Posts" and the faeries aren't helping me - do I have to bookmark a thread for the function to work? I always get taken to the first page and have to click and scroll to find the last post.
If you use the Recent Discussions button you get a list of the most recent posts in date/time order - when you click on threads it still takes you to wherever you last read.
The other thing, is you need to give the software time to take you to where you last read, if you click too fast you'll end up at the top of the page or thread
Bookmarking a thread means you will get notifications of new posts on that thread. You should always go to the most recent unread post on a thread, or back to the last post if you've already visited the last page.
The board index will show it there are new posts with little yellow boxes by the thread name - similar to the yellow indicators on the old boards except they include the number of new posts, track what you read across multiple devices (if you use them), and actually works.
The edit box could use scroll bars or something. If the thing you're replying to is longer than the size of the box, you see the bottom, and you can only get to the top by pressing the up key -- not by any normal scrolling method, on either phone or PC.

I'm inclined to agree with @BroJames about where clicking on a thread title takes you - it's very easy to reply to what you think is the last post on a thread and then discover that there's half another page in between.
It probably depends on individual people, I suspect that those who regularly missed posts on the old Ship aren't now, and those who regularly miss posts here didn't have a problem before. We're all individuals.
Personally I find it easier going to the first unread post than going to the last post and having to scroll back up to find the last post I read and start reading from there (which in my case sometimes meant I missed an earlier post and found myself saying something that had already been said). On both systems there's a potential to miss something posted while reading the last page and/or composing a reply.
The biggest frustration by far for me is finding which threads I want to follow. I used to do this via today's active threads using the preview of the latest post to give a flavour of what was being discussed on the thread and whether it might interest me. I do not have the time or inclination to click regularly on all threads to see what is inside so I am sure I must be missing discussions I would like to follow.
Am I the only one with this issue?
I find the same, Gracious Rebel. I've just decided to look at the first page of the Recent Discussions and hope that I find something entertaining there. I do go on to page two if I have a lot of time. Of course, there are pros and cons to this method but at least it keeps things interesting. I suspect that the discussion titles here will need to be a little more clear than the ones on the old Ship.
The version deployed for mobile display (what you get when on a phone) forces manual creation of links. I have to type manually
text
I can copy and paste the webpage name which is the only shortcut to this
http://www.wepage.sof
There is a drop down menu at the top of typing text box which has on the third from left a stylized backwards P with a line to the right. This contains: quote, code, spoiler in the drop down options. Could a URL link please be enabled there? or elsewhere. So that it is as convenient to link a URL in mobile as it is on desktop displayed version?
Work around is to manually type the url link as noted or force redisplay on a phone as the desktop site. Which is a problem with some mobile browsers which will then display all subsequent pages as desktop. Very fiddly.
It seems silly that CODE is an option on this drop down when it is seldom used on this forum. (I used Code twice above because it's there: of what frequency of use might it be in our discusions here to justify it over Link?)
An email which claims to be from Lambeth Palace but which it now appears isn't was briefly available on the IICSA thread in Hell but has now been redacted: May I ask why? Surely the Ship isn't here to act as cheerleader for any particular denomination or person: so long as it is clear (which it was) that the email linked to something sent out by others claiming to be the ABC then no harm done.
And if you are going to preserve the Lambeth press office's blushes, surely it only fair that the tweet from them announcing that the redacted email is a spoof should also go?
Okay, so the idea was that you start a separate thread for this question, as per normal practice, but while we wait on an Admin to hive it off...
Simply put: the email is, as it currently stands, a hoax. The link was redacted. The news that the email was a proven hoax is, as it currently stands, true. The link stays up.
This isn't about saving anyone's blushes, or censorship, or cheerleading for any particular denomination. It's about what's provable. And currently, since the sender of the email in question deliberately made it look like it came from Lambeth Palace, the veracity of the contents of that email must be therefore also be questionable.
I did say at the very start of the thread that I'd be keeping a very close watch on things, due to the potential of landing the Ship in hot legal water. This remains the case.
Shipmates used to be able to plug stuff in our sigs - now that sigs are no more, is there a way of plugging stuff, or is that too likely to pith people off?
Yes, I'd like to demand money (sponsorship, raising money for cancer research in memory of my father).
Earlier this morning, I posted something. The computer has not been turned off since. Just now, I went to read latest post on '21st century spirituality' and found that I was logged out. How would this happen? I went to 'sign in' and found my e-mail and passcode already in place, so clicked on 'sign in' and here I am, so all is well! However, I just wondered what might have happened?
We seem to have a "feature" in relation to the cookie used to track login details, in that it expires after a month logging people out. Log in again and all is well ... for another month (unless the tech guys have changed the default for that).

Thank you. I hope it continues to remember details each time!
Is it possible to save more than one draft on any one thread? I have just lost pearls of wisdom (well, maybe not) by apparently overwriting one with another.
No, it assumes you'll only be writing one reply to a thread at once. If you have a draft on a thread and decide to answer another point first then what's displayed is your earlier draft. You'll need to copy that to a text editor before deleting it in favour of the new post if you want to keep it. If you quote a post in a thread that will be added after our existing draft, with the earlier text retained in full.
If you have a draft going, and click "Quote" on someone else's post, it will append it to the end of your current draft. So it's not just answering one poster at a time.

Indeed, I have found this to be one of the most useful features of the new software.
When I type a response and then click on preview, it seems I have to move the mouse to the right (I have the area I'm working on considerably magnified). Peering at the screen I can perceive the line beside the quoted parts but if there's an error that I hear (from Synthetic Dave!) I'm not sure what I should do to get back to the edit area. I have usually highlighted and copied it in case I lose it, but find myself back at the main page or somewhere. I have not failed to get back to the edit area, but I do not know how I have done it!! Could someone please advise?
There's an edit button next to the preview button at the bottom of the page. That button is still there when in preview mode. To get back into edit mode you have to click on that button.

I'm not sure why the Edit button is visible when not in preview mode, because it doesn't do anything (that I can see) unless you're in preview mode.
