Had some news about S last night: she's stable, and the initial assessments on the impact of the stroke are positive although there will be a lot of rehab ahead.
Praying for everyone now as I'm running Sunday School this morning.
I no longer know how to pray for my country (Britain). Things are so muddled, I don't know what to hope for. God help us all.
The way I pray for your country and mine (U.S.), which I do every day, is I ask for God to get us out of our respective crises as He sees fit. It's the way I pray for most situations, rather than tell Him how I hope things will end up.
Problem Cat is home and asleep in his cage, wearing a red baby onesie. His total bill comes to 0.67 * $BIGNUM so I should only have to pay an excess of $SMALLINT. The vets were surprised at how well he did, given the extent of his injuries. So I am sure your prayers helped.
Now I need to get finished in time for this SECOND paper deadline that I was going to meet after missing the first one (q.v.) It’s just that when I got home, the Telemum was going to pay the vet bill by bank transfer, and she kept asking me “what are we doing? what do I have to do?” and kept dialling numbers and getting through to people who weren’t her bank because she was dialling the area code after the number. I realized she was confused, which means she has a UTI, so I had to call the doctor back AGAIN (he’d been earlier about her dizziness, q.v.) and keep the phone lines open AGAIN, while continuously re-explaining to the Telemum why I was keeping the phone lines open and while she fretted about paying the vet immediately, and then I had to go pick up a prescription and some TV dinners, while explaining to the Telemum DON’T DO ANYTHING WHILE I’M OUT. DO NOTHING. and then it was only 25 minutes till Problem Cat’s medication was due, and which I was certain the Telemum was not going to be capable of administering, and then I had to coach her to take her first dose of antibiotics NOT THOSE, THEY ARE FOR THE DIZZINESS and she’s like “but I don’t have to take the antibiotic now” YES YOU DO, TAKE IT NOW and she took it and now her brain is working again. She made me eat one of the TV dinners and it is 8:30 pm and I have not done one single keystroke of work. If I miss this deadline it will be hilarious in a way that’s not funny
Gratitude to be back online after a tree branch fell on and crushed the roof antenna. Household insurance saved the day although the Finance Monster is grinning at me like a Cheshire cat, all pointy teeth...
Good grief, Telepath, prayers for you and family, Problem Cat etc
For Rossweisse, urgently
For everyone else as I catch up with the list here -- of course my vague woffly prayers have been continuing but I prefer some specificity and focus.
... my vague woffly prayers have been continuing ...
I'd like to think that the Almighty's speciality is unravelling vague woffly prayers. But, like Jengie's vicar, I think He likes Cranmer's matchless prose as well.
Prayers (woffly or Cranmerian) ascending from over here for all in need.
I have turned to the Chapter 27 of the BCP 1662 "Forms of Prayer to be Used at Sea" in times of personal crisis - where seems like a similar dire situation as being in trouble at sea
I have turned to the Chapter 27 of the BCP 1662 "Forms of Prayer to be Used at Sea" in times of personal crisis - where seems like a similar dire situation as being in trouble at sea
The first thing I thought of was oh, hear us when we cry to thee, for those in peril on the sea. Even if my mind automatically knows what the peril on the sea is. Possibly different for each of us.
Problem Cat had not peed in 24 hours yesterday which is an emergency, as cats can die from that, so I took him to the emergency vet for the most expensive pee in the world. Nothing is wrong with his waterworks, he just didn't like his setup.
So I reset his setup and now he has not peed in 18 hours and if he doesn't do it by the time I get home I will have to squeeze him and can I please just not have this problem, please?
Also the Telemum is weak and fatigued by chickenpox and UTIs and the meds used to treat them and can she please just be well again, please? thx
Despite Problem Cat's machinations I managed to get an OK paper submitted by the deadline, this time. Fooled you, agent of chaos.
I may need some rather odd prayers today. Shortly after D. died, his sister and b-i-l left for a long-planned holiday in the Himalayas, and got back on Monday. They had decided not to tell his mum (who's 90, in the early stages of Alzheimer's and currently in a care-assessment centre) that he'd died until they got back, which made sense at the time.
Now D's obituary has appeared in the Torygraph, and yes, you've guessed it, that would be her paper of choice.
I don't know if she's still reading newspapers, but if she is, and if they haven't had the chance to tell her yet ...
Prayers please for my friend Barry B. in Queensland who has had a major heart attack. He was "gone" about 4 times in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He is also refusing surgery. (He's 76 and real Crocodile Dundee-type)
The following was just sent out from the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona:
Bishop Reddall's son, Nathan, suffered a significant brain hemorrhage Tuesday afternoon, and had surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain. It is too early to know what the outcome of that hemorrhage will be. Please lift up Nathan and his whole family in your prayers at this critical time.
I'm not sure of his age, but he's quite young. Please scroll down here to see a beautiful picture of mother and son at her Consecration last year.
Two prayer requests from me: my friend K has had a severe stroke at the age of 58 and is incapacitated; another friend, P, has cancer of the pancreas and not doing well.
For @MaryLouise's friends. For all mentioned above. And for the many on the ship and off it who are finding living through these interesting times wearing or worse.
Seeking prayers as my funerals just keep on coming. Up to 6 in a fortnight now, which is a lot for a small community, and for me. Those of you who officiate at funerals will know how draining they can be.
And please pray for the family of B, a leading elder in the next parish who dropped dead at work today.
And join me in giving thanks that my tall giraffe of a son has finally, finally made up hits mind to volunteer in a Christian orphan community in South Africa, following in his sister’s footsteps. I am so relieved he has made a decision, and glad that it is the more adventurous choice.
We've just had an update from Bishop Reddall about her son, Nathan:
Updates on Nathan: lots of good news. He opened his eyes today, and they are talking about extubating him today or tomorrow. MRIs made the neurosurgeon very happy, which made us happy. No idea what caused this, but also no reason to think it is going to happen again. I cannot begin to tell you how much the outpouring of prayer from all of you means to us... We have a very long road ahead of us as we get Nathan’s left side moving again, but he can give you all a big thumbs up with his right hand.

Somewhere between 8 and 10 at a guess. It is a beautiful photo, and prayers for him and all in need.
...(There was quite a bit of questioning her choice of vestments at the time!)
I'm afraid that they'd have a lot of fun with her outfit on the Facebook Society against Tacky Vestments page, but I'm rejoicing over Nathan's improvement.
Praying through, for all, by name, and for all in need
Please pray for me...the French finance monster is nibbling our heels, and we are committed to our holiday here in the UK. We're there now, but I'm panicking about what will meet us when we get home. With my medication I get over anxious, and I have actually started self harming...I know this isn't good and plan to see my GP when we get home. Equally, this holiday is a celebration of our 60 th birthdays, so I want to enjoy it as much as possible. Please pray...

Prayers most definitely ascending.

My vicar is using the old prayers for at a time of crisis. Somehow they make more sense than the modern ones.
Prayers (woffly or Cranmerian) ascending from over here for all in need.
Prayers ascending for all in need, including various human beings and Problem Cat.
Asking your prayers again (you all do such good work) to respond lovingly and compassionately to an extremely trying situation.
What a good idea. Will turn to them in Morning Prayer, shortly.
