  • The late Marquess of Bath treated women like sh*t. His heir is altogether rather more conventional than his late papa.

Shirley Douglas, former wife of Donald Sutherland, and mother of Keifer, died a couple of days back. She was an actor herself, playing, among other roles, a piano teacher in the 1962 version of Lolita, and a gossipy old society dame in Dead Ringers.

Most notable in Canada, however, as the daughter of Tommy Douglas, the iconic left-wing leader and Father Of Medicare. Shirley campaigned prominently to keep his legacy alive.

(No link, as I have not figured out how to do that on a cell phone.)

I thought I’d put Honor Blackman on my list, but I hadn’t. I could have balanced out my negative points 😳

I hadn't heard that! Any available link? I've been watching rather a lot of Westerns these days, including The Virginian, because a lot of "classic TV" channels carry them (in the 50s and 60s, there were dozens of Western shows on).

Another baseball great who, unaccountably, I did not have on my list. May he rest in peace.
  • Another music great, John Prine, dies from Covid-19
  • Hope he’s having a cocktail, vodka and ginger ale, and smoking a cigarette 9 miles long.

 Sobering to note the first Covid-19 death on this thread, March 25 ( Manu Dibango), and the acceleration of references since then. Sorry to be reflective on a more black humour thread ... just having a Moment™, I guess, when I was actually looking for something else. Don't let me derail .. I'll head off to the Styx

No worries, Zappa - I'd been thinking similar thoughts over the last wee while. I've lost two RL acquaintances (both elderly ladies, one over 100) in the last few days; I don't know whether they had Covid-19, but it was the first thought that came to my mind.

    It's a sobering time altogether.

  • RIP Stirling. He was definately on my list of possibilities. Such a loss - a real promoted of the sport, to make it safer (and thereby make all of our driving safer).
  • RIP Tim Brooke Taylor - just announced on R4 news, I can't find a link - a COVID 19 death.

What a shame, big ISIHAC fan here.
  • link - this is a shock. Really sad. I remember him from the Goodies, but he always had a really good ear for humour.
  • We have some of the (infamous) Goodies DVDs, though I cringe at some of it.
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
I loved the Goodies when I was a much younger piglet.

    RIP Mr. Brooke-Taylor.

I was very grateful to him in my early teens for enabling me to hear the music I loved on Caroline, and of course the evergreen Johnny Walker.
  • Not on anyone's list and no reason he should be though you likely have seen him, character actor Gene Dynarski has died. Interesting blog post by a friend of his.
  • I don't know the name, but Irrfan Khan - who starred in Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi - has died.
  • Cellist Lynn Harrell, one of the finest and most prominent American classical musicians of his generation, has died. He was 76 years old.

  • Dave Greenfield - keyboard player with The Stranglers has died.

He wrote Golden Brown, and his keyboard work is an important part of of the Stranglers sound. A sad loss - I doubt we will have keyboarders like him again.
  • And making interesting music in heaven with Dave Florian of Kraftwerk has died.

I really want to hear that duet.

TANGENT: I have seen Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Fats Domino share a bill. Chuck Berry thanked Mary Whitehouse from the stage, without whose help he would never have had a UK number one single.
