Still, nothing quite holds a candle to Alan calling Erin to Hell.
    Not guilty.

Though, I also couldn't be bothered to call no one to Hell

I can't find the thread where I was called to Hell. I can't actually remember who called me or why.

I've searched fruitlessly for that one too. But I do remember the title.

"Why is Alan Cresswell always right?"

That was one of the best serious discussions I have ever seen on the ship.

  • Wasn't it Myrrh who called Alan Cresswell to Hell? In response to a Hell call? Not ken's Myrrhemeutics but another of the Hell threads Myrrh acquired to challenge xer arrant nonsense.

MT, Thanks for the kind words. I have in fact been called to Hell once, by JimT, long ago on the vintage Ship. It's an experience everyone should have, right?

Heh. I called RooK to Hell once, when he was bemoaning his virgin state.

We need links to those masterpieces - the calling of Erin and the calling of God to hell.

    Priceless!

    Would it be this one?

Didn't I call Myrrh to Hell? Maybe ken beat me to it (see, more examples of competitiveness if Telford is still reading), but I certainly came very close. It's all lost in a fog of "what the heck was that all about?"
  • 'a fog of "what the heck was that all about?"'is almost a definition of history, no?

Myrrhmeneutics is pretty close to my favourite thread title ever. Only ken .........(RIP)

Looked for the thread on the old boards without success. As well as the inspired title it was a pretty good Hell thread.

Don't think Myrrh ever called Alan to Hell, but she used to be pretty Hellish to him in Purgatory until we lowered the boom.

But this is a bit like showing your friends your favourite embarrassing photos ... I'll have a HellHost after me shortly.
  • @Alan Cresswell I thought you did call Myrrh to Hell as a result of one of the climate change threads, and got lots of support, so Myrrh's response was that thread asking why you were always right.

Myrrhmeneutics disappeared in a purge of Oblivion a few years ago; that purge took out pretty much everything to a date just after that thread.

  • That thread was long, long before my time on the ship, but I remember it being linked to before and reading through.
It’s one of my favourite things on the internet about faith and religion and all that, anywhere, ever.

It is very much like a good Psalm or maybe Job, isn't it? I think real faith is only to found by wrestling with God. I am convinced that God is big enough to cope with his beloved creatures being so honest and vulnerable and angry with him.

    South Dakota?

    Virginia, surely?

    Too easy.
  • Was Myrrh the one who thought that if CO2 were really heavier than air it would sink into basements and stairwells and kill us all?
  • I definitely remember the idea that global warming was a hoax dreamt up by Margaret Thatcher to close the coal mines.
  • Does anyone else remember the husband and wife who believed in keeping the sabbath from when the sun set on Friday in Jerusalem until sunset on Saturday? Wherever you were in the world the sun in Israel decided it.

Yes, that was one of her saner ideas.

No - the other way around. She thought that because it is heavier than air it sinks out of the atmosphere but somehow it doesn't kill us all.

It gets even better a little further down... Erin responds to Spawn: Oh look, Spawn has a crush on me. How cute, in that "my skin has just crawled off my body and is whimpering in the corner" kind of way....

I made up the name of my bteed!
  • You thought @Piglet lived in the Orkneys, when clearly she dwells in Arcadia.
  • Which is not a good place to be in just now: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52333380
  • *BF wanders onto the thread, looking around rather aimlessly...*

What happened to @Telford? Did I miss something?
All this talk about Small Choral Pigs, whether Orcadian or Arcadian, is, however, both edifying, and enjoyable.

Well, our local Cathedral is about to start streaming pre-recorded services of Choral Evensong - as per this trailer:
    https://vimeo.com/408355648

No Choral Pigs are to be seen, alas.

Now you come to mention it, I don't know...but the name seems to ring a faint bell. Somewhere near Birmingham, isn't it?

    Don't tempt me ... ;)

More seriously, I used to have my mouse hovering over the Hell button more frequently than it does now. A few roastings cured me of that but I was a slow learner.

I don't think I've ever been tempted to call you here, Jugal, even though you talk daft sometimes. Thought I'd tell you that while you're down here ...

With Telford the only surprise was that it took so long. People must have the patience of Saints.

I’m just as Internet ignorant but less patient. I assumed the Arcadian Pig appeared in the video but didn’t bother to watch it.

@Telford your posts here and more especially here are a textbook case of shitposting:
posting large amounts of content "aggressively, ironically, and of trollishly poor quality" to an online forum or social network, in some cases intended to derail discussions or otherwise make the site unusable to its regular visitors.
  • EutychusEutychus Shipmate
To clarify the second of the above links, here is the original shitpost on the thread in question.

You somehow manage to interpret a statement about authorities on a theologically-themed thread as being about local government.

Either you totally failed to read for context, which is again disrespect for other posters.

Or you deliberately misunderstood and were trying to score points for humour. You don't get to do that and get away with it when you've acquired a reputation for disruption and failing to engage properly with other posters.

Now you're continuing the disruption by a) pursuing this stupid tangent on the thread in question with further obfuscation b) referring to this Hell thread elsewhere. You cannot expect to keep doing this sort of thing indefinitely.
  • Well, if we need an authority on how to be an annoying jerk we know who to approach.
