Emojis, emoticons, smilies... Where did they go?

    It’s easy.

  • I used to be able to code all the colour and size stuff, plus a few other things, let's see what I remember:

    rainbow

I did remember how to code images (to include the smiley with the cascading hearts), but images are not allowed. Very disappointing getting it up on preview but failing to post.

    clever!

Yes I thought I was being all clever and coded a bouncing emoji - it worked on preview only

    <Rook explains the footnote thingy>

Now, the desire to learn how to do that could drive me to the practice thread. Thank you.

I really don't like emojis--these, or any other.

Welcome to the club. Because you've earned it, I hereby grant you the ability to not use emojis - these, or any others, on the SoF. As a codicil of that, you are expected to look down on those who do with smug superiority. Though it would be appreciated if you didn't blather on about it or try to make anybody feel bad¹.

    ¹ That's my job.

I remember Corgigreta had a sig that said something like "A smilie-free zone" so she could be smug on a regular basis without even trying.

Sigh. I still miss sigs. :pensive:

But the Ship goes on in a tenable version, and that's the important thing.

I use an iPad to access the Ship and have just discovered that the emoticons are useable on the Ship. At least, they appear in Preview, so I assume they won't disappear when I post. I guess it must be the same with other tablets or a phone.

Haha - they do disappear! And I was looking forward to getting a gold star from RooK for sharing this!
  • The BBCode emoji syntax is different from that used for posting an emoji elsewhere. A mobile platform seems to interpret the emoji but then the software here doesn't.

The vomit & the head against the brick wall emojis were very useful....unfortunately they still would be.
  • Hmmph - I came here to check when I couldn't code a footnote at a smaller size, and it looks as if that function is now disabled ( @RooK 's footnote has grown too), but the colours remain. I can see my coloured rainbow above still working, but at standard size. Personally I prefer the size option to the colours ....

I noticed the same removed size functionality yesterday. Alas. What one version of BBCode giveth, another can taketh away.

It seems that something has changed and emoticons from the iPad now remain after posting.

RooK must be so thrilled. 💕

Must be an unexpected effect of the software update. I note that not all of them are working, though.

As an aside, isn't it nice to actually get routine software updates again? I can't remember the last time that happened, but it has to be before I was even a Host, never mind an Admin...

Step 1: Sacrifice an emoji to the internet gods.
Step 2: Insert the special character where you'd like to make a snarky footnote.
Step 3: Copy the <color> and <size> codes I used to make it look all foot-notey.

re 2) Insert rusty farm implement into special character .....

Strangely enough, I don't seem to be able to see the candle, and only get a square in Vivaldi (Chrome-based browser, latest version). I think this has been reported on the prayer thread. Interestingly, it works in Firefox, both Quantum and pre-Quantum.

These observations were made on Win 7 and Win 10 machines.
