If Trump loses by a landslide ...

  • They would seriously give Trump custody of Barron?
    :open_mouth:

BTW, I see Barron is 14 years old, so would he not have a say in the matter? He's a remarkably resilient lad - his Pa claims that he (Barron) had Covid-19 for just 15 minutes before recovering...

I acknowledge that we may be straying into Forbidden Territory here, as regards Ship's Standing Orders.
  • If Trump does indeed by a landslide, it might be like the plot of Pirandellos Henry IV - he might retreat mentally to a fantasy world where he presides over a phantom White House at Mar del Lago and his entourage play up to him.
  • Trump is a dangerous man who is happy to put personal ambition before anyone else.

And my knee-jerk reaction: How is that different from what's happening now?

  • So, how many days, weeks... months until we know? When are Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania in? Friday? Monday? At least he can't run in four years' time. But his successor - Pence - will just buy the marginals with tax cuts as Trump did. Unless Pence isn't macho enough for Hispanic men...
  • Unfortunately, as long as Trump is init, 'the phantom White House' is for real. Heaven help us all.

The problem is not Trump, it's the American Voter. Having had the benefit of watching him in action many more of them have endorsed his presidency than gave him a go in 2016.
  • Second term presidents are lame ducks. I mean, how much more damage can he do...

AIUI, at present all we have are projections based on preliminary counting of ballots. The official results for each State don't get announced until December - giving time for all valid votes to be counted, and for all the various verifications and checks that need to be done. Where the States have already announced their projections with a clear lead for one candidate the final tallies may change but the overall winner (and, hence, number of EC votes) is very unlikely to change. Where the difference between the candidates is very small then the result will be uncertain until everything is counted and checked, which can take weeks - even in the UK a close count going to several recounts and checks on all the unclear ballots can take a couple of days and that's only 50-70,000 votes, a State may have millions of votes to be counted (albeit in parallel as each voting district recounts their own).
  • We know now; if Biden wins it will be a miracle and it will make what difference? America is as divided as it was in 1860.
  • Oooooooooh! C'mon, c'mon!
  • I suppose the question now is what will he do when he doesn't lose by a landslide but still loses?

Well, he certainly won't go gentle into that good night...
  • Someone on BBC 'Today' this morning speculated he was setting himself up to have a crack at running again in four years' time. He won't admit it if he loses. He'd be the Nigel Farage of US politics if the Republican Party were to disown him, and it doesn't look as if they will at the moment.
  • Thanks @Alan Cresswell. I suppose that this is inevitable in a federal election, which seems like a two-tier system. One can know the EC count before all votes are counted as you say.
  • Since Trump claimed his win over Hillary (306 to 232) was the greatest landslide ever, if Biden wins by the same margin, I would call that poetic justice.

270 to Win long held Biden would win 290 to 248. They were not too far off, in my opinion.
