We are still waiting for the wet in Townsville- clouds gather around the edges and then go off to rain on Tully, but at least we got one good sharp shower this morning.
And we're due for a good old-fashioned southerly tomorrow to bring some relief. It's still around 35 outside here, in what is usually one of the cooler suburbs. Those in western Sydney must be unbearably hot.
I usually don't mind the rain, but I have half a tree that was cut down yesterday now in pieces over my back lawn - and the bloke with the chainsaw can't get back until tomorrow when rain is forecast. It's not safe to use chainsaws in the rain as particularly nasty accidents can happen, so I'm waiting for the weather to clear up so we can clear the mess. On the other hand the local felines are enjoying it. 😸
We were at a wedding on the shores of Lake Macquarie yesterday, and even by the water the temperature was nudging 40degC. The bride was a former student of Mrs BA whom she has mentored ever since, and is the longest-lived survivor of childhood neuroblastoma in Australia. Never expected to live to this age, let alone marry, she and her husband were able to announce at the reception that she is just pregnant to many joyful tears from family and friends.
The day was made more special for us by the attendance of our 17-month-old grandson whom we have not seen in twelve months, firstly due to my own illnesses and then lockdown and hotspots. He spent a couple of hours at our place today in the air-conditioning, and we seem to have re-established family relations.
Now the southerly has arrived and we can sleep comfortably after a couple of special days.
Rehearsal for our big day next Monday went well. Only snag so far is the person doing the 'sermon' has had to pull out because of a death in the family. Another has been found who has known both of us for 35 years. It seems with the wind back of covid restriction we now can have as many as we wish!
Thanks - I was looking for the thread to ask you how things were going. Prayers that the day is wonderful for you both.
We are getting a mention on local radio here on Monday morning, no names, as our wedding is the first in a church in the Newcastle area.
I have no idea what will be said as it is a live interview with the minister conducting the ceremony
Here is the link https://www.abc.net.au/radio/newcastle/live/ it will be 8.45am

We'll try to catch it. The mention is good, gets the Anglican position well away from ++Glenn's silliness. What could be done now with that $1m he donated in the last stages of the No campaign?
Hello everyone, the wedding went off very well with around 80 attending. Most of the attendees were not church people and were very impressed with the service. There were a few tears and lots of humour.
We are still a bit high this morning from being surrounded with so much love and support. Off up the coast for a few days tomorrow.
Good evening. We are back from our 5 day break up the coast of NSW where we dodged all the bad weather. It rained all through most nights but was OK during the day so we were able to get out and do some sightseeing.
As long as you had a break from home to mark the occasion (I assume that you're no longer working). Wet weather at the beach in summer has its own enjoyment as long as you have the the gear for it.
I think we all do. Even though we're now retired - me completely, Madame largely so - the covid precautions have changed our lives. Still get our walks and coffee, shopping changed a bit, and nowhere near as much eating out. Then church was suspended for 4 or 5 months, and that was quite hard to cope with, zoom services were very different and we did not get used to them. What will 2021 bring? More covid I'd say, can't see much change on the horizon.
A quiet thread, but some unhappy news to get things moving. The Abp has just sent a direction around that all Anglican churches in the northern region (and that basically means the area north from the Harbour and Parramatta River to the Hawkesbury, and west to somewhere near Duck River) are to be closed tomorrow. So no services for the last Sunday of Advent. This is a flow-on from the Avalon outbreak.
Meanwhile, much damage in Fiji from Cyclone Yasa , which was a full strength category 5. We stand ready to donate through Australian appeals, esp through Red Cross which is well set up in Fiji, to support the fallen.
Red Cross will doubtless be collecting here too. Must search out the details.
I am cross with myself. A friend and I were to celebrate his birthday in March, then lock down struck. So we decided to combine Christmas with his birthday. I thought I had put his specially chosen present in a particular bag, but it's not there. Now, on top of all the Christmas stuff I have to search my house. The other option is to get something else and give him the present for his next birthday.
Not only Anglican churches closed, but there's been a new case in the suburb just to our south. A woman who has not tested positive visited a hairdressing salon just over a side street from a supermarket which we visited yesterday.
Biggest is finishing up his part time job as youth worker, and his closure of ministry preceded by a picnic was supposed to be yesterday - all postponed, worship back online. Part of the kids program cancelled, part going ahead over zoom. He and the minister have replanned Christmas a few times now, as have most, and it must be exhausting.
As for worship on Thursday night and Friday, and how many and where for Christmas lunch, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Fortunately the wedding we attended on the 12th at Mosman hasn’t been mentioned in dispatches - if someone had been contagious, it would have been as big a spreader as the knees up at Avalon Bowlo that night- people weren’t being very careful.
Plans to finally get to Perth in late January to visit the Old Curlies etc seem unlikely to go ahead.
In happier news, Little Miss is thrilled with her HSC and is off to CSU Bathurst to do comms journalism having received an early offer some weeks ago.
May we all find Joy this week.

Pity about the Perth trip, but lots of good news about the little Curls.
Enjoying the cool weather and the good solid soaking rain today. with more to come. It's put a stopper on walking but we'll catch up later. When to have and not have services is exercising quite a few minds. The flare-up would happen this week.

It would seem at the present moment, in this neck of the woods, we are still allowed to sing as we are not part of greater Sydney so with that in mind I did some much needed organ practice and blew the cobwebs of of some stops not usually used! Of course, that might change tomorrow with our Glad's press conference
Organ playing is not the problem, it's the singing in large numbers. Of course a singer expels more air and over a greater area than does a speaker, even one not using a microphone.
Noisy mag 4 quake centred this side of town. Good reminder to have emergency supplies on hand. I don't think either Christmas baking ingredients, nor 2 weeks of Aroha's kibble count.

I loved the Darwin storms. *Sigh.*

Today it was 28 C+ and I am a grease spot. I must sort out the cool down controls on the heat pump because tomorrow is forecast to be about the same.

I'm retired now, but still feel that this year has been one I will be glad to see the back of.
