In the evening, my wife and I watched the 1993 film, 'Dave' which (you may remember) is about the victory of decency over corruption in the White House. We slept well. Today I shall (whilst social distancing) sing a psalm of praise.
As tightly screwed on as it ever was. I had no alcohol in the house but I did consume what was left of a blackberry/raspberry pie (a little less than half of it was left). This morning I'll attend the neighborhood Lutheran church, despite recent remarks made about Luther on another thread, and ask the pastor if singing a Te Deum is part of Lutheran practice.

A group of us (6-10) from undergrad started doing Zoom cocktails this year. One of us, "J.", is an intelligent, staunch, lifelong Republican, currently living in NYC. We had our Zoom last Monday, and I interrogated J. as to his feelings about the GOP and the election. He was shockingly candid. He and I then had an email exchange Saturday morning, before PA had declared for Biden. Some highlights from J.:

* Mitch McConnell is a force of evil and believes in nothing but power for its own sake
* Lindsey Graham is an embarrassment and has no honour (as I said to J., Graham's conscience was on McCain's life support)
* [almost verbatim] Trump in a second term would have been Trump for life and the death of American democracy
* it would be for the best that the GOP self-immolate, and the conservatives begin anew.
For many shipmates these are commonly held, but for a conservative Republican to say these things I found tremendously refreshing. And, given the source, an acidic indictment.

Climate change; affordable housing; medical care for all; food and housing for all, including those currently unhoused/homeless; school funding; other school issues; animal protection; and free ice cream (dairy, non-dairy, sorbet) or other dessert for all, once a week.
However the man leaves the White House, I hope they do a deep clean before Biden enters. To many in that building have been reported to have had the Virus.

Actually, it wouldn't be moot even if it took place after Trump is no longer president. As I understand it, the Senate has two separate votes after a House impeachment to produce two results: one result is whether or not the individual is to be removed from office (which would indeed be moot at that point), but the other result is whether or not the individual can ever again hold that office, which would not be moot for a one-term president.
