  • Probably someone in Aberdeen. (Not really, just looking for an excuse to go there.)

I think I'll have to Take The Sleeper -

    1) Go straight to Inverness
    2) Do not have supper on the train
    3) Eat only cakes and cream buns when you arrive as there is a shortage of everything
    else in the Highlands).

As I walk around Inverness feeling sick, I wonder who comes up with these rules.

They changed them back in 2013 after the North West Co. Durham final at Bowes went into its fourth week and they ran out of beer at the High Force Hotel.

Which means we can depart and get back onto a sensible footing.

Straddles aren't allowed when diagonals are spooned, so reverse shunt into Kings Cross St Pancras

Oh, that's jolly good. Means I can move to Putney Bridge. Change here for the Boat Race.

You'll have a long wait - it doesn't happen until April.

    I'll be rooting for Cambridge.

    Excellent.

    Oxford Circus

You can resign now if you want...
  • Kensington (Olympia) - for Bertram Mills' Circus (admittedly it's not Christmas any more).
  • Circo Massimo
  • Piramide , panettone served to the players
  • Farringdon as there is (or was) a large Italian community nearby at Clerkenwell.
  • Arnos Grove
  • Shady Grove
  • Grove Park

I'm going to exchange my ExpressRail Card for an ExpresRail Card and then go to Northampton for a bit of shopping at the Grosvenor Centre.
  • Frankly anyone going to a shopping centre at the moment is liable to end up somewhere like Northwick Park
  • Gare du Nord
  • Gare de Bercy from busiest to least busy of the main stations.

Or St Quintin Park & Wormwood Scrubs.

  • I used to work overlooking Wormwood scrubs (at Hammersmith Hospital). I used to get the Central line there, and walk down the side of recreation ground between the station and the Scrubs to get to the Hospital. A lot of the time I could smell cooking (and it smelt a lot like cabbage!) as I walked past. As this would have been around 9am or so, it's rather depressing to think what state the cabbage might be in by the time it was meant to be eaten....

And on that note: East Acton
  • Did anyone catch yesterday's BBC radio 3 breakfast show? The temperature locations for England were changed to places mentioned in Flanders and Swann's The Slow Train which they then played after the 8:30 forecast.

On which note, as Lincolnshire is good cabbage growing country, Tumby Woodside.

Cockermouth (sorry - that was terribly obvious).
  • At the risk of being even more obvious: Cockfosters.

Cocksburnpath (but check your pronunciation. Anyway, the last train stopped 70 years ago).
  • Dear me, anyone would think you lot had a one track mind. (Which is entirely possible on stretches of the Severn Beach line).. But anyway.

    Hainault. Just because.

    Well that helps doesn't it?

Can't straddle; diagonals are available in principle but would result in mass spoon.

Now, I know that Mornington Crescent, a beginners' guide (Vol 13), Brooke-Taylor 1993 (page 736 if you want to find the ref) was quite dismissive of reverse shunts during a Spoon Declaration, owing to the danger of causing a runaway, however, I don't see how that applies this time. Therefore I'm playing Leicester Square

Seriously? At the weekend? You must be made of stout stuff, KLB!

It does, however, release two of my purple chips, so I'm off to Ipswich, where the Tractor Boys are apparently 2-0 up against Blackpool.
  • Hmm ... a bit tricky seeing that there is bus substitution between Ingatestone and Newbury Park all weekend. Is your journey really necessary practical?

Don't know whether it's really necessary or practical, but a mass spoon is Right.Out. as it breaks all social distancing rules.... However, I'm probably permitted to take two cards from the discard pile, and shunt sideyways to Burnside (Strathclyde)

Aaarrrggghhh!!! I never saw that one coming! That's stopped me from getting to Penrith! Oh well. Have to make the best of things, I suppose. Best I can do now is Wellingborough. Oh well.
  • Swiss Cottage seems to be as good a place as any to be in the middle of winter.

    Earls Court

I'm playing Stock Market Crash so everyone return their topmost billboard to the board.
  • Judiciary Square
  • Blackfriars

Holborn Viaduct (convenient for the Old Bailey)
  • Osgoode
  • And after several days exploring foreign subway systems, Tommy the 1995 Stock trainset wanted to go home.

    Morden Depot
  • And thence to Perivale
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
    Clapham Junction
  • Clapham (next stop Giggleswick).
  • Causey Arch
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
    Marble Arch
  • St James Park
  • Stadium of Light
  • Chancery Lane
  • Holland Park
  • New Holland.
  • If it's tractors you want

Tile Hill (erstwhile home of a Massey Ferguson factory.)
  • PigletPiglet All Saints Host, Circus Host
No, no - if you want tractors ...

    Ipswich
  • No good - today's match called off due to frozen pitch. You need a different Ipswich (Queensland).
  • I would suggest Ipswich (Massachusetts) but I suspect it’s kind of cold there too.
  • jrwjrw Shipmate
'And the lights all went out in Massachusetts'

So it's back to Manchester Piccadilly
