  • I've today booked a night in our favourite hotel in the Forest of Dean, in May.

The two places we have been tomore than once, and to where I would rush off to in a heartbeat (if money / kids / work / global pandemic were not an issue) are the Splendid Palace Hotel in Limone, on Lake Garda in Italy, and the Dolphin Inn Motel in Fort Myers Beach, Florida

We stayed at the Bay Horse on the main square a couple of years ago and did all the pubs in the town, the breweries as well of course.

Oh. Now this has me thinking.

There is a hotel at one end of Weymouth that looks v grand from the outside. Apart from some largish entry rooms the inside is a bit less grand though.

I would like to return one day.

And we would so love to see you again!

I find myself thinking a lot about the wondrous places I've gone to and those I'd hope to see for the first time. Some of the best places are where I've met fellow Shipmates, and not a one of them was an axe murderer!

A return to Canada would be so marvelous. Staying in a (more luxurious) cabin on a river or lake with a boat and fishing gear sounds especially appealing right now.

We have lots of cabins on lakes in Newfoundland -- we have more lakes than land, it sometimes seems -- and I would love to introduce you to our beautiful province, but obviously it'd have to be after our very tight travel restrictions are lifted.

The new owners are given our details and then it’s up to them if they want to get/keep in touch.

Spencer’s owner sends us almost daily photos, he’s so proud of him. 🐾💕

Yes, he lives with two Irish Wolfhounds!

Thanks for that, all very happy together!

Newfoundland shares the spot at the top of our list. We'll visit our friends on Trinity Bay as soon as we can. Then back to favourite people and places in Scotland as soon as that becomes possible. I'm also working on getting back with friends to the Karoo desert in South Africa, which is probably the most beautiful place I have ever seen, despite being far from an ocean.

I am delighted that Mrs Spike and I will be holidaying abroad this year. We are heading off to Tenby in South Wales in June
  • I am on holiday this weekend...three nights in a cosy farm cottage north west Norfolk beside The Wash. Such a wonderful feeling to be somewhere other than within my own four walls after so long.

Yes, after a damp start, it's been a gloriously mild autumn here.

We are at the beach for the week. Wonderful friends offered us their beach house (which they otherwise could be renting to someone) so we could get away and unwind after my retirement. We’re planning on a week of little beyond relaxing.

I was booked for a trip to Scotland last July, which of course was canceled. I am really hoping to go in 2022. It's at the top of my wish list. And my children and their spouse/partner had planned a trip to Montreal as a surprise for my 70th birthday last year. I'd still love to visit Montreal and Quebec City. And @Ruth mentioning Maine upthread reminds me that's on my wish list as well.
  • We are on the train heading for the city to fly out tomorrow morning for a week on Norfolk Island. No mobile phone cover so should be peaceful.

    Enjoy your holidays everyone!

We still have our fingers crossed that we will be allowed into Germany in June, our granddaughter is growing so fast! We are booked to go for six weeks. The flight was re-booked from Christmas.

If not, we are all planning to meet in Athens, where her other grandmother lives. We’ll go for a week.

Then we’ll cross our fingers that they can come to us in August.

All of us will be fully vaccinated and, once we are there, we don’t socialise indoors. - picnics by the river and walks in the woods will be the order of the day.

    🤞🙂
  • It looks as if the wedding booked in for early August isn't going ahead so I'm looking forward to a long break on the boat. Maybe over to the Scillies or, if its allowed, to Ireland.

We just want to get to London to see our grandson who we haven't seen in person since October (or was it September?) Matters complicated by the excellent news that our son has a new job, starting on May 10th.
