Let's not dig too deeply into the Moria of the shell game "being enabled" and "mattering". You might not like what you find.
Perhaps I am unusually obtuse today, but I'm not certain what you mean.
I'm ambivalent about polls, I do not really care if they appear or not.
My response to CK was serious, not derisive.* For optional use features only those desiring to participate and those who must implement, maintain and monitor them are relevant.
However, negative views can influence implementation. But why should they? If 100 people want such a feature and 150 do not, the only thing that matters is whether 100 people are enough to warrant the effort. The 150 can just ignore the feature.
Mornington Crescent is probably hated by many more people than actually like it. But it has been allowed from time to time because there were enough that do like it.
The rest of us ignored it.
*Though I could have phrased it better. Apologies CK, I wasn't meaning to be rude to you.
Some of the tags on the right hand side lead nowhere. I have a suspicion that some of them may belong to private boards? (for example #anxiety #coping). And are the hosts talking about #deadFridayafternoonatwork?
The simple answer is yes: tags from non-publicly visible boards are visible to all. The potential for fuelling general paranoia by this means has already been noted
I've noticed this a couple of times - it looks as though the @ function doesn't work when a username has a space in it.
Interesting - it must be inconsistent, because I have had some notifications.
Digging to find out how to set the quote function I also found the default for notifications is the pop up - you have to opt into email notifications. (It is in profile - the additional tabs)

Let me rephrase it as two separate, not-needing-to-be-answered questions:
1) Is there anything wrong with people expressing a negative opinion?
2) Does anyone's opinion matter?
@Drifting Star—the @ function works for usernames that include spaces if you put the username in quotation marks.
Ahhh - thank you! I hope everyone will realise this is necessary!!
Technically, it isn’t really necessary to type the quote marks. If I type @ and then start typing your username, a button pops up with your username. If I click on that, it will finish the tag for me, complete with quote marks. If I don’t click on it, I need to type in the quote marks myself.
The one thing I really miss, and I guess its not possible here at all (although I would love to be proved wrong) was the way that on the old board in 'Today's active threads' view you got a taster of the post content (the first line or two). Reading the boards via this method, it was possible to pick up on what topic was actually being discussed in the thread, something that was not always obvious from the thread title. And many times this feature got me following threads that were of interest to me, that I would not otherwise have known about. Does anyone else miss this, and are there any suggestions on how to find out what's actually being discussed without having to open every single thread 'just in case'?!
The way the new Ship deals with multiple-page threads takes getting used to. When you go to a board, or to Recent Discussions, it doesn't tell you how many pages a thread has. Clicking on a thread takes you to the last non-read post. I've already replied to a post, assuming I was on the last page of the thread, but there were still pages after that.
You can also, if sighted, hover over a emoji and see the code. Thumbs up and thumbs down use +1 and -1, rather than starting with letters. (I did try looking for them with the colon letter trick). As far as I can tell, those are the only two that use symbols rather than letters - and they come up if you try - colon one.
OK, I've just tried, three edits later, using the usual symbols to get emojis and they all worked - : D for grin, and etc.
It adds a bookmark to the thread. It will then be listed under the "My bookmarks" link to the right of the page (non-mobile version only), and depending on notification options you'll get a pop-up notification if someone posts on it.
When I am scrolling down, I often find that a chunk of text from a post has transferred to a new post, although I haven't pressed Comment. Then I have to save draft, and delete in draft folder. I'm baffled, any ideas why this is happening?
Having mulled this over, and consulted the oracle, (wife), I reckon it's because I'm left handed, so my elegant little finger touches a post , and software sees that as selection. Why it copies that to a new post, well, dunno.
You're probably hitting the "QUOTE button on the bottom left of the post, which will quote a chunk of text into a new post.
By gum, lass/lad, I think tha's reet. I wonder if the NHS amputates pinkies? Or I suppose as LeRoc has said, I could withdraw it, as if taking Earl Grey at 4pm. Ta, anyway.
I asked a few days ago as to why there is now a three letter minimum rule for user names - I would be interested to know, if possible, or have I missed it?
There are a variety of options for notifications. You can access those preferences through your profile; alternatively if you click on the notifications icon there's a link to the notification preferences.
When posting from my phone, the messages of draft saving or new posts on my bookmarked threads really mess up the predictive text. Not a biggie, but I need some patience there. (Yesterday I was trying to compose a post while Gamaliel made three posts in a row on the Co-Co-Constantine thread. I found myself shouting "Stop!!" )
We'd looked at listing the hosts in the board description, which would be similar to how we had them listed before. But, anything we put there is also displayed on the categories list. Currently each board has a two line description, with a line for the most recent post (which with long thread titles does roll over to two). Those three lines match the size of the little graphic in a visually pleasing way. Adding an extra line to list the hosts would spoil that.
Having the guidelines as a stuck thread, with the hosts listed there, is a bit clunky. When the rest of the Ship is ready to sail that will give us a new platform for the FAQs, and perhaps we can find a more elegant solution for the guidelines and listing hosts etc when that becomes available.
What is a bit annoying: I click on the little globe to see my notifications. I have three of them. I want to right-click on all three to open each in a separate tab. That doesn't seem to work. (I use Chrome.)

Thanks but I can't find somewhere to mute notifications on a specific thread. I posted once on PotP, and now my Notifications are filling up with every other poster's prayer requests - and presumably will do so in perpetuity?
You should have a list of general preferences to notify you of pms, when someone posts on your discussions etc. The bottom of those is "when people comment on discussions I've participated in", uncheck the boxes next to that and the notifications should stop. You could uncheck all the boxes and get no notifications at all if you wish.

I’d like to make a circus pole to see if that’s true for shipmates.
Just a bit of fun, nothing wrong with that.
^ That was done with the button. It looks as though it hasn't registered properly.
[ETA @Boogie : The dress is blue]
I'll try again (sorry to use you as a guinea pig @Nick Tamen )

Is that a 'thumbs up' thingummy? Can you tell me what keys you used to produce it, please?
Colon, plus, 1, colon.
To find out what keys are used, press the quote button for a post with an emoticon in it and find the relevant piece of text. That's what I just did.
OK, I've just tried, three edits later, using the usual symbols to get emojis and they all worked - : D for grin, and etc.
What will clicking on the star next to a thread name do? I'm on a mobile.
Edit: oh, I can answer. A notification popped up on my phone that a new post was made. Neat.

Try CONTROL-click, or COMMAND-click.
