I’m trying to post a new discussion and I keep getting the error message { "Code": 403, "Exception": "You need the Garden.Community.Manage permission to do that.", "Class": "Gdn_UserException" }

What am I doing wrong?
I just got this in purgatory, which served me right as I'd just been typing a long OP. Now apparently lost.
You should still have most (if not all) of it in a saved draft. And, some people seem to be succeeding with a second attempt to post from their draft copy.
If this persists, other things to try include signing out and signing back in, and clearing your browser's cache (usually <shift> and/or <control> <reload>).
I've just tried to start a new thread in Ecclesiantics. When I pressed the button to post, I got an error message that said: { "Code": 403, "Exception": "You need the Garden.Community.Manage permission to do that.", "Class": "Gdn_UserException" }
Any clue about what has happened?
(I've been blocked from starting the thread but at least I have the draft saved.)
I have been having the same problem. I am using an iPad Air and I now regularly highlight and copy all my text or risk losing it as the error sometimes pops up when I hit save draft. There is no one reason that seems to cause it but once it appears it is impossible to save a draft, edit, or post.
I just posted a new thread but not before refreshing the page several times and repasting what I had previously written.
I had the same error report today, starting a thread in Heaven. The error message went away when I clicked on the invisible cross, so I could initially finish typing the opening post and then copy the text, but I couldn't post the OP or do anything other than cancel the original. After cancelling I posted again using the copied text.
The other thing I noticed was that I had a saved draft to the first time the message popped up. It popped up twice.
This happened on the tablet which, along with everything else, signs out of everything when I log out and clears a lot of the cookies, so I had signed in before I tried posting. (My bank won't let me look at my account if I have tried more than a couple of times without clearing cookies, so I've disabled most of the cookies and live with signing in to everything.)
Some trial and error suggests that it's a new bug introduced by the software updates.
Following the clues in the posts above, it appears that it's the "Draft saved" notification that kills the new thread/discussion (or at least the unseen stuff that happens when the notification pops up). But it does look like the draft really is saved at that point, and that it only happens the first time the draft is saved (whether manually or automatically).
For the time being, when composing a new thread (aka discussion), the workaround is: as soon as the "Draft saved" notification pops up, abandon that page, go to the list of drafts, open the draft and carry on composing. Subsequent saves of the draft don't appear to aggravate the permission problem, so you should only need to do it once per new thread.
I appreciate this may be trickier on a mobile device.
OK it's probably my error and not a snagging problem but the link in my recent post on the blogs thread in Heaven isn't working and I can't figure out why.
What have done wrong?
Any and all help appreciated
Thanks
That seems to be a consistent problem - url links missing the colon after the https: / http: - it's been something several people have been finding challenging on the practice thread and when I've looked that's been the error.
It seems to be something several people struggle with, but when I've tried to replicate the problem to identify what the problem is I never have that problem. Whenever I create a link the colon in the URL I copy is always present when I've pasted it here. I can't seem to get it to paste the url with the exception of a single character.
When I receive a message, I get a Notification and a message in the Inbox. I need to click on both to clear them. Minor inconvenience, of course, but redundant.
My drafts aren't saving. Is anyone else finding the same? In one way it's good as I'm left handed and use an iPad and was frequently hitting the Quote button and creating drafts I didn't want. But now they don't save at all - if I navigate away from them they're lost.
I use an iPad (Mini 4) and my drafts save. But there is sometimes a problem if I delete a huge piece of text - if I’m quoting someone but only want to refer to a small part of what they said - where after deleting it I can no longer scroll down to the text box, and I have to refresh the page. And also (a different issue) sometimes the text box itself won’t scroll - if I write a long post - so I can’t get to the bottom of it. Refreshing the page fixes it. So does writing shorter posts!
Posts were saving as drafts and allowing me to preview on my phone, and I could pick up and add to the draft or delete it on the laptop or vice versa, but that's changed recently. (Somewhere on this thread I did it in response to a query.)
It is working for me on iPad Mini 4 and iPhone SE. It takes about a minute and then it autosaves - a pop-up comes up to say it has autosaved. Or I can click ‘save draft’ and it saves right away. I can switch between iPad and iPhone and it is there, saved. I have just tested right now.
(Not saying this to suggest what others are saying isn’t true - I imagine it must work on some devices and not others, and so it may be helpful to know which it works on. Or could it depend on how recent your account here is? No idea - I don’t understand this stuff - but I created my account only a couple of weeks ago.)
Oddball thing just happened. Quoting RdrEmCofE on the "unacceptable nicknames" thread. The displayed message I was quoting is:
Russ! Come and give me a hand here will you.
But what comes up when I hit the quote button is this:
<quote="RdrEmCofE;c-48200"]Russ! Come and give me a hand here will you. I seem to have a dogpile coming down on me. [/quote>
Any idea what's going on there? Not a huge thing, but I don't want to attribute words to someone who didn't say them, or later thought better of them and revised.

Probably the case. The post in question reads as shown in your "but it showed up like this" example, and also indicates that it was edited one minute after being posted. So the shorter version you thought you were quoting was probably the pre-edit version.
But I like the idea of a rift in the time-space continuum.
Weird thing about the jump to new posts feature. I've noticed lately that the Ship correctly shows the current new posts since last viewed, but when I click on the thread, I am taken to a previous point in it. Even when I have posted on that thread after that point. It has been happening for a little while now.
ETA: Not everytime, though.
Does the "stay signed in" box (which I had checked) lose its effectiveness after a while? It has been working fine, but today it needed me to "sign in". What's up?

out-of-date stuff in your browser's cache, for example.

On which board are you having the difficulty?
In Heaven.
I copied my post then went back in and posted it before it had a chance to pop up.

Makes no difference.

A friendly Heaven Host should be able to fix it.
And thank you to whoever fixed the link for me.
"It" being the Code 403 Exception when trying to start a new thread (discussion).
Thanks @pease.

Or just your bog-standard rift in the time-space continuum. ;-)
