...I'm not sure if it has to do with reading this thread, but I just experienced what mousethief did: a posted post saved a draft. Never happened before. Perhaps it happens if it saves a draft just as you post, or I'm guessing it happens more frequently than that given mousethief's complaint.

It happened to me yesterday. Most annoying.

You get rid of a draft by clicking on "save draft'. Who'd a thunk it?
That's VERY Microsoft: in Windows you shut down by clicking "Start"

Am I right in thinking there's no way to edit a private message once it's been sent?
  • Correct, Nenya. But, unlike the old Ship, you can immediately send a second message without waiting for the other person to respond.
  • I had an e-mail notification that thunderbunk had posted (in the Images thread) but I can't see it , although I have seen her previous one. How would I be able to see her posts to make sure I hadnd't missed one?

@SusanDoris - I can’t answer your question in general, as I don’t know how your software works (could you maybe do a search for ‘ThunderBunk’ on the page?), but in this specific case, Thunderbunk’s latest post is right before your last two posts: click here

(It looks like Thunderbunk posted while you were writing your post - you need to check after you’ve posted to see if anyone posted right before while you were writing.)
  • I don't know how things work with your software for reading the Ship.

But, the notifications (which you have chosen to get by email) can also be accessed from the "globe" icon to the right of your name at the top of each page. That will include a link. In the particular example above it will say "ThunderBunk posted on Images" - with both "ThunderBunk" being a link to his profile, and "Images" a link to the particular post. The email should have the same links - so if you follow the thread name link it will take you straight to the post in question.

I can't find any links to the new Mystery Worshipper.
    Are there new calling cards?
Because the old ones have the hypenated web address
  • Link to Mystery Worshipper

    https://shipoffools.com/mystery-worshipper/

It's linked above next to the symbol.

I have had a problem logging in, I suspect because I use another name and the same email. I would much rather have Ship access and lose the Mystery Worship account if I can't have both.

I don't know if your problem is related to the situation you described, but you could establish a separate e-mail address (as I have) exclusively for Mystery Worship. Easy to do if you use gmail. Even if you don't use gmail for your "regular" e-mail, you could set up a gmail account strictly for MW purposes. The only e-mails you would receive are notices that your reports have been accepted. (And perhaps some spam, but that's life.)

Yes. The new calling card is accessible from the "MW Central" page available to you once you've registered as a Mystery Worshipper. That's where you would go to accesss the questionnaire and file a report also.

Thank you - just got back from church and saw that I did actually have an email with the instructions.
I just panicked a bit with it being an hour before the service!
    Ta :)

I hope to see a report from you. I'm going to "do" a church myself this morning, and that will be two new reports to christen the new site with.
  • verityverity Shipmate Posts: 28
    might have.
I'm not allowed to tell you
  • Amanda B ReckondwythAmanda B Reckondwyth Mystery Worship Editor
If I were allowed to notice that you might have told me (were you allowed to do so), I might say that it was received, edited and posted and that it looks good.

But that's all conjecture, isn't it, now?

    Heavily edited then :P

I meant "winding" rather than "windy" for the streets - small, narrow...

Changed. But you had written: "We did find it hard to find a spot to park because the streets are very small. The town feels like a small windy, Victorian seaside harbour town, without the busy-ness that should come along with it."
  • Query: The old MW pages often had pictures in the body of the report of the church interiors. It seems like those aren’t there anymore in the new pages, though it’s quite possible it’s just the reports I’ve looked at so far. Are those additional pictures gone going forth, or have I just looked at a misrepresentative sample?
  • Amanda B ReckondwythAmanda B Reckondwyth Mystery Worship Editor
Currently the software limits us to one photo per report. The question re that one photo consisting of a photo montage was raised but hasn't really been explored. Whether the software will be modified in the future to permit additional photos is also uncertain at this time.
  • Thanks Amanda. Understood.
  • Can anyone tell me why, on my desktop, I cannot use Ctrl+Go-to-end-of-line key to go straight to the bottom of a page? If there isn't an answer, then it is probably my software, but I can use that key stroke on everything else.

Works OK for me, but it also depends on the input focus. If you're editing something (or your web browser thinks that you're editing something), Ctrl-Home or Ctrl-End only takes you to the beginning / end of the text in the edit window. Clicking outside the edit window (or using tab/shift-tab to move between page elements) can change the input focus and thus the effect of the key combination. However, other software (and javascript) can override this.

Thank you for your reply. I will try that clicking outside the areas; and get the Tech chap to see if Java is properly organised.
  • How do I find my pm outbox, please? I can find the inbox, but not the outbox.
  • peasepease Tech Admin
All your "conversations" are in the inbox. The name of the other user (or users) is displayed at the top of each conversation, but the user avatar (image) shows the last person who posted (ie you or them)
  • peasepease Tech Admin
I think the inbox is the one place in the interface where clicking on a user's name doesn't take you to their profile, it takes you to a particular conversation.
  • Pease

thank you - I'm always a bit wary of clicking on things.""
  • The other problem with the inbox system is that if you have left the conversation, you cannot get back to it, so you cannot then see your outbox. That one I found out the hard way.
  • NenyaNenya Shipmate
That's worth knowing. I wondered what happened when you Leave Conversation and now know to avoid clicking it.
  • peasepease Tech Admin
You can return to the conversation that you've left if the other person invites you back - so you could start a new conversation asking them to invite you back to the old one!
  • I started a post, wrote a couple of lines then decided not to continue. I deleted it. When I came back to that thread today, I find the words still in the edit area. Deleted again. Same thing later. It does not appear to have been stored in drafts, so could someone tell me how to delete it, please?
  • finelinefineline Kerygmania Host, 8th Day Host
SusanDoris, you have to click on 'My Drafts' and then a preview of your draft is there with a tiny cross on the top right hand corner, and you have to click on the cross to delete it. I am not sure how it would work with your software - I find it such a tiny cross that I often click beside it by mistake and am taken back to the thread. Also, on my phone it is hard to find the 'My drafts' link, so I will post it here for you and anyone else who might need it:

    https://forums.shipoffools.com/drafts

    Good luck!

Are you certain that it is not stored in your drafts section? The behaviour you describe is consistent with a lingering draft post.
  • finelinefineline Kerygmania Host, 8th Day Host
Oops, I somehow missed the bit about it not being stored in drafts.
  • fine Line and roo K

    thank you for your help.
    1. I was going to my profile page and couldn't find Drafts there, then discovered it on main page!
2.Found the icon ( I have the mouse arrow and therefore the 'hand' dark blue and very large size) but the deleting didn't work, until I tried deleting the second one first and then it worked.
  • RooKRooK Admin Emeritus
Glad that's resolved. The rather-well-hidden draft delete function is obviously meant to be a feature to teach us frustration tolerance.
  • I have just tried to send a pm, but it keeps not being sent - apparently because I have not put in a recipient, but I certainly did. Any ideas?
  • Did you use an @ sign? Because the pm system likes the names without an @ sign. When you fill in the address box, it comes up with almost invisible suggestions underneath that you can choose.

thank you. No I did not use the @ sign. I could see a x at the end but I assume that is for other names.
I will try and see the almost invisible suggestions underneath! Could you please tell me what they are?
Also, when I tab through from top to bottom of a pm, I can't hear the words 'reply with quote' or something, so I do not know if a reply I type directly below a pm is actually a reply, although I am assuming it is?

  • When starting a new conversation click in the recipient box and start typing the name of whoever you want to send the message to, the software will produce a list of people with names that start with what you typed. The first name on the list will be highlighted, the rest almost invisible. Click on the name you want. Then click in the recipient box and repeat to add more recipients if you wish. The cross deletes a name from the list of recipients.

And, yes type in the box below to send a reply. You can use all the normal BBCode. But, there is no automatic reply with quote option - I guess the developers thought it would be obvious your replying to the latest post in the conversation, whereas on the public boards it's common to reply to a post where there are other subsequent posts.
  • If I start typing Sus - I get your name up and someone else's underneath. If I click on your name, it shows as a black rectangle with white writing in the recipients box, with a little cross to the right of that block, which you click on to remove that name. The next line are the commands we have on all posts - the coding to show a quotation.

The box underneath is the box you type a reply in.

Underneath that, to the left are POST MESSAGE and CANCEL to send the message you'll have to click on the POST MESSAGE button.

If you post your private message and then LEAVE THE CONVERSATION - found in a red box top right, you cannot go back to that private message unless the person you have contacted replies to you. If you click on any other navigation button you can return to your Inbox and find the messages you have sent.
  • Alan Cressswell and Curiosity Killed

Thank you for your help. I'll have another try later and see if I can get it right.
  • finelinefineline Kerygmania Host, 8th Day Host
SusanDoris, another option is to click on the screen name of the person, if you come across them in the forums, and you will be taken to their profile, and on the top right, to the left of their profile pic, is an envelope symbol, and it says 'MESSAGE' next to the symbol. If you click on that, the person's name is already selected as the recipient, so you only need write the message and send it.
  • fine Line

thank you - I clicked on your name to see. I found the button which says 'Message', but the envelope is invisible. In order to use my software efficiently, I was advised long ago to check Tools advanced options: Ignore fonts; ignore colours, so although photos and headings have colours, many things don't. All fonts come out the same. I understand people use various colours and types of font to emphasis/cause alarm/shock/etc but Synthetic Dave ignores them all!! :)
  • finelinefineline Kerygmania Host, 8th Day Host
That makes sense your software would ignore the envelope, SusanDoris. Glad you found the message option anyway. And makes sense that if Synthetic Dave is reading everything to you, variations of font size and colour are not necessary. I make a few accessibility changes to my own browser too, for different reasons - it's handy to have such options, and the new ship is definitely more accessible than the old one.
  • During the past week or two, I have noticed that square and round avatars appear oblong or oval!! This does not particularly matter, nor does it alter the way the text is read or anything, but I wonder if anyone has any idea what I might have clicked on by mistake to cause this. With magnification off, the site still sits in the middle of the screen... ... but possibly seems a bit wider.
  • This morning, squares aare squares and circles are round!! I have no idea what I have done to put it right - wish I knew!!
  • Just dropping in to say 'Well Done' to SusanDoris (on whom be peace) for coping so admirably with the Ship's foibles, given her reliance on Synthetic Dave!

Susan (or Dave) fret ye not about the odd glitch. They happen to all of us!
