Well, rats. Matthew was the hurricane from two years ago. Michael is this one!!!
Michael, shove the boat ashore?
I said almost the same thing this morning (I think it was "Michael washed the boat ashore"), and added that if a boat washes up on your property you get to keep it -- at least according to the Commander of Cheese.
Michael isn't going to come near me, thank goodness, but our friends in the Panhandle will have a lot to deal with. Boats going ashore will be the least of their problems. We just had that one rain band with a stiff wind attached yesterday.
Miss Amanda, didn't y'all just have a rainy blow? Isn't that a bit unusual for you to have one, let alone two storms? Even a fizzled storm can cause inconvenience!!

Indeed. One hurricane is highly unusual, two hurricanes most definitely so. Rosa produced a lot of rain, some flooding, not much wind. I expect Sergio will produce the same.
I just returned from a trip to the Grand Canyon. We encountered sunshine, fog, rain, and snow. Thanks to all the unusual rain, one road was closed due to a rockslide, and another closed due to a sinkhole (which caused one fatality). No one can complain about boring weather in Arizona these days.
Wow. Looking at the monster getting ready to pass its eye over the panhandle, I'm just hoping and praying for the folks who didn't bug out. Even though it isn't the biggest of storms, it's sure huge. Even down here, hundreds of miles from the center, we've had storm surge yesterday and will have more today!!!
I like your thinking, Graven Image (and I hope you're right)!
How are those of you in the path of the hurricane doing? I don't know if it's the coat-tails we're getting, but it's been bucketing down here most of the day - admittedly small potatoes when compared to the worst of it.
I came out of the bar where I had been watching the Dodgers game last night and it was not only pouring rain, there was thunder and lightning right overhead. When I got home I saw advisories about how you're not supposed to be out and about in such conditions. Which I honestly did not know!
We have a high fire warning for the next 48 hours because of dry conditions and high winds. We have also been told that the power company may turn off the electricity to prevent fires from starting from downed lines. So battery lamps are on the ready, and phones fully charged, to receive fire notices. Hate this wish for rain soon.
Well that was interesting, about 20 hours with no power. 8 of it was sleeping. The rest sort of like camping with a soft bed and full bath. I filled a thermos with boiling water before outage so we had semi hot drinks for breakfast. We have electric stove. So cold sandwiches for lunch. All and all not bad and most thankful no fires reported. Hard on local business, but us older retired folk just stayed in and read by a sunny window.
I did walk the dog and noticed all the cars in driveways. Whoops forgot to back cars out of garage for when we lost power on auto garage opener. Next time will add that to check list.

My auto garage opener had a string you could pull to disengage the power to the opener and open the door manually.
Did Autumn finally fall? Could it be true? This might possibly be the last day in the 90s! At least for a week!!! Tomorrow and Monday are predicted to start with temperatures of 67 degrees!!! Hallelujah!
This has been a brutally hot and humid seven months. I'm ready for the AC not to have to run for 24 hours a day.
I hope all the rest of you are having delightful weather!
Our big "holiday" trip from Australia starts tomorrow. First substantial stop will be New York, where neither I nor the Marama have ever been before. We will be staying for a few days with the best man from our wedding (and his wife), who we have not seen for the past 30 years. They live on Roosevelt Island , which I gather is well placed for us tourists.
I had a customer this morning who was wearing an 'I voted' sticker. He shuffled through his wallet to check if he had enough cash for his order, which ended up totaling $5.10. When he ended up taking out a credit card, I said, "I saw a five there. That'll be fine."
He was surprised and pleased, but I thanked him for voting.
I did! Now, if only a majority of voters do the same...
It was close here in Florida. Unfortunately the big ballot positions didn't quite squeak by. Well, the senate position hasn't been decided definitely. But it doesn't look good.
At least the House of Reps in Washington gives us hope for some brakes to be put on tRump!!
Enjoy the Big Apple, Tukai - it's a wonderful city!
To the pleasant surprise of the Marama, in our few days in New York we were neither mugged or shot at, and nor did politics intrude overmuch (except for a few horrible ads seen on TV in bars etc). Instead we found people generally(and not just our hosts) to be helpful and friendly. Sorry we missed the opportunity fro a shipmeet, but communications were limited for us.
We are now continuing our travels in Europe. If it's Thursday, this must be Budapest.

Stay safe jedijudy!

That's one nasty critter. <votive>
When I went to the Grand Canyon over 10 years ago in December, I just had to put up with snow.
Stay safe. My friend in Georgia tells me his wife is competing with ponies in a competition starting tomorrow. I hope they have strong raincoats!
Looks like Sergio will be crossing Mexico and missing California and Arizona altogether save for some rain showers in the outer bands.
"The most powerful hurricane ever to hit north-west Florida". Wow.
Thoughts, wishes and prayers from Down Under.
MMM
So far, most of my family and friends affected by Hurricane Michael have let me know that they're safe.
The devastation looks just horrific.

Sorry to hear of the dramas; glad you got through it all and caught up on some reading under the sun. Good news on the no fires.

Enjoy the cooler weather. Sounds like much needed relief for you in particular, jedijudy.
It's sunny and 6° (42°F) here, which suits me just fine.
*jj does the happy dance*
It's 68 this morning!!!!
We have the hope of being in the 50s next week. Maybe!
We had a very brief stint of Fall last week! It is summertime again.
It's so sad. *sigh*
Please vote sensibly!
I did (last week actually)!
He was surprised and pleased, but I thanked him for voting.
