Praying for the dangerous crossing mentioned by Jengie Jon and that something be done to make it safer, that those using it be protected 🕯
For Rossweisse's Bob and all who loved him, were inspired by his music 🕯
For the newborns 🕯
For a friend C who suffered a sudden stroke at the age of 35, in ICU right now 🕯
Asking for prayers for peace here in the Cape as the army (national defence force) moves into Cape Flats communities to counter gang-related crimes, The death toll from gangster shootings last year is estimated at nearly 2 000, and 18 people were killed last weekend. Ambulances are unable to enter these townships because paramedics are targeted and attacked. It is a terrible situation.

Prayers for your friend C - a stroke at the age of 35? So young.... Prayers also for C's family, and those looking after C too.
I'm from SA. My family left to come to the UK when I was 10, but I went back out there about 48 years ago, and spent a couple of years Cape Town. Several family members are still there, and I still feel very largely that SA, particularly the Cape, is my heritage. The troubles there are heart-breaking. You, the medics, and the people of the Cape Flats all have my prayers.
Thank you, @caroline444, good to meet another local!
C's stroke at 35 is probably connected to the violence because he was carjacked and shot at (not hit) a month ago and he has been hypervigilant, unable to sleep or go out anywhere in public without getting heart palpitations. He is stable now and out of ICU, many thanks to all who prayed for him.
For all mentioned on the thread above 🕯
For Rossweisse and her daughters. #teamRossweisse 🕯
I was unaware that the situation in the Cape Flats had become so dire that the SADF has been sent in. Years ago I visited Khayalitsha. It was a wonderful, but heartbreaking, experience. The resilience, ingenuity, and warmth of the people was humbling.
Thank you so much. My nieces’ mother’s live in boyfriend is skating on the edge of violence, has been denying their father visitation, and a court case is in the works. Police have been called at least once.
<votive> For MaryLouise's C, and for all affected by the violence in the Cape.
<votive> For Lamb Chopped's family situation
<votive> For the Telefamily, all Beakys, and all others on the Ship and their loved ones who are in need of prayer
<votive> For all in need
Just off to catch a train to go and help- Little Beaky is not good, he is in so much pain from the NG tube triggering his reflux and he needs to be held upright all the time, both day and night and this could go on for MONTHS whilst they wait for an appointment for surgery.
His mum has another migraine and a very sore c-section scar, his Dad is exhausted and Baby Beaky has newborn jaundice but is otherwise OK.
Thank you for your prayers- I will be praying for all who have posted here whilst I am gathering my strength on the train journey!
Today Parliament is voting on a motion to make sure Parliament is in session in the weeks leading up to 31 October. At 11pm on 31 October, the UK leaves the EU automatically unless the UK does something to stop that - and nothing else is currently being proposed. Leaving the EU with no deal in place will be catastrophic, but both candidates for the next Prime Minister - whom only Conservative Party members, a tiny percentage of the population, can vote for - have stated their intention for us to leave with no deal.
Of the two candidates, the more likely one has stated plans to “prorogue” parliament - to suspend it - in the weeks leading up to the Brexit deadline so that Parliament cannot take any action to stop the UK from leaving with no deal. This would amount to, as some commentators have described it, a “putsch”. The seriousness of the situation can’t be overstated.
So tl;dr I’m praying that the motion to keep Parliament in session is passed.
Praying for all that need our prayers specially the Beakys, @Rossweisse and all facing illness. Amen @telepath, let's hope sense prevails.
My brother is back in hospital with sepsis. Atheist though he is he needs some prayers.
So glad the parliament have voted the way they have, but not sure how much difference it will make. @piglet I just wish we had someone who remotely resembled a leader at the moment.
Thank you for the prayers for my brother. Things are under control, and they are trying to sort out the root problem which is complications from his major cancer surgery in April. He sounds surprisingly chipper which is good.
Ross has asked me to.post an update: she's back home after her liver biopsy and in quite a lot of discomfort, not where the incision is but in her bones Please remember her in your prayers!
I'd appreciate a prayer for D's mum, N., who had a fall at home the other day and is in hospital. No broken bones, but she's a bit shaken up, and a suspected UTI is playing silly-buggers with her mind. She's 90, and was otherwise in good fettle for her age, and still living independently. Thank you.
For an end to the carnage in gang-related violence on our Cape Flats
What brings me comfort in devotional reading this week, Julian of Norwich: “If there is anywhere on earth a lover of God who is always kept safe, I know nothing of it, for it was not shown to me. But this was shown: that in falling and rising again we are always kept in that same precious love.”
Well it turns out that (part of) our political class can find two brain cells to rub together when they want to. I just pray we don’t end up marooned on this island with these amoral dingbats in charge.
For the Beakys.
For Brother Sarasa.
For Ross.
For N’s mum, for healing.
For peace in the Cape Flats.
I may have to cover chaperoning duties to Florida at short notice. This is because several people are experiencing serious problems, which need urgently to be resolved. I am actively trying not to sing that song from the Book of Mormon about this.
Thank you, @Margaret, for posting the update. Thanks to those of you who pray for me; it makes a real difference. And thank you to @Lamb Chopped for reading and responding to that update. It made me feel much better to have you in the guest room overnight in case I needed help! (Let's do it again, when I'm feeling better.) I started out very groggy and tired this morning, but felt much better by 3 p.m. Deo gratias.
For N, whose mother is in the hospital, which is why I am to chaperone a herd of teens to Florida. For J., staying behind to cover a very stressful setup here.
D's been speaking to his sister every day, and there was a slight improvement in his mum yesterday, but she's not quite out of the woods yet. I think they ruled out a UTI, which is almost unfortunate, as if it was as simple as that, then antibiotics would presumably put it right. It's possible it may be something more lasting; she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last year, and is on a new medication for it, but they may still be experimenting with dosages and so on. Thank you all for your prayers.

I left early, but privately remembered Ross, Bob, Beaky, and others, as I did a perambulatory prayer to the pub.
