Good news. Not only is the Giraffe coming home next week, but the programme he has been with is officially closing for the volunteers on Friday, so they can all leave and none of them will feel they are missing out. This was not what was planned originally (parents got an email last Tuesday) but is what I suggested they do in the reply my husband didn’t think I should have sent.....
For wisdom and travelling mercies for the Giraffe.
For DaughterErin.
For a private intention. Also for some very very crystal clear direction and divine intervention in my job hunt which I still haven’t properly started, but which is draining all my attention from my thesis which is otherwise nearly done.
Please would you pray for my friend, S, and her family? Her husband, P, died early this morning (cancer, long-standing) - they were the first people to greet us at our new church, 2 years ago, and he was a lovely, gentle man who had shaken off the lack of love from his own parents to be a caring and deeply loved father to his family.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory. He knew exactly where he was headed, but poor S now has to face life without him.
Chaim Schneur Zalman Yehuda was placed on ECMO on Wednesday. His left lung collapsed, then they got that up again, and his right lung collapsed, and then his left one recollapsed. Today the news was they could possibly remove the tube from his right lung tomorrow if he continues stable.
This comes very late. I apologize.
Yudi has been in a medically induced coma for almost 7 weeks.
A few days after they were able to stabilize his lungs they took him off the vent because of risk of secondary infection and put him on ECMO which is a machine that circulates his blood through an oxygenator and recirculates it back through his body. This was in order to give his lungs a chance to heal.
He has been on ECMO for siz weeks with very very little progress. It appears that the epithelial cells of his lung linings have been so badly damaged by the virus that he is not capable of regenerating them on his own.
Added to this, his liver enzymes have been elevated in the past week giving rise to concern that his liver is damaged.
This weekend just past, his wife was given permission to see him on compassionate grounds. His level of awareness and alertness was remarkably improved. She was also present in order to authorize the administration of stem cell therapy to his lungs and liver that is at present in experimental phase.
Pluristem is stem cell treatment derived from placentas. There is one other individual who has received this treatment at the six week mark and has recovered. Yudi is receiving it after seven weeks, and is the latest stage recipient in the world right now.
The procedure was successfully completed 45 minutes ago. His wife will be permitted to visit him tomorrow again.
His illness has sparked a global campaign of Jewish observance in the merit of his recovery.
I am asking that his Christian brothers and sisters add their prayers to those of their Jewish brethren for the complete restoration to health of Chaim Schneur Zalman Yehuda Ben Hinda Yocheved in NYU hospital.
At the same time I am praying through this thread for everyone who asks for the courage, the strength and the outcomes they most dearly need.
I'm so relieved to read this, @Cathscats!
<votive> For @Tree Bee's daughter Erin, and her baby
<votive> For @Telepath and all her intentions

<votive> For Yudi, and all who love him
My leg pain is worse. My excellent physical therapist thinks that it may just be pain from the cancer, and that I will just have to live with it, and stop walking almost entirely. (I will also probably have to take stronger pain meds, which will make it harder to do most of the things that are most important to me.) This is difficult to accept. Your prayers would be appreciated.
Praying for @Rossweisse, and for Yudi and for S. and for @MrsBeaky and her family (always). May God give us the courage we need and in his grace more than we need.
@Rossweisse, I wish I could send you my legs for you to use. I'm a lazy bugger, I wouldn't miss them. However, I doubt that they're as elegant as yours.
Praying for @Rossweisse, and for Yudi and for S. and for @MrsBeaky and her family (always). May God give us the courage we need and in his grace more than we need.
Thank you!
Little Beaky's parents decided as of this week to have the nanny/ carer back. They managed ten weeks on their own but with less than five hours sleep a night they are exhausted so they felt the need for help outweighed the risk of infection. Little Beaky has a big day at the Evelina tomorrow where he will see all his consultants. Our hope and prayer is that he will be one of the children for whom the ketogenic diet works and that his seizures are reduced.
Would you all please remember the R family in your prayers? The elderly father passed away May 4th from Covid-19. The family is devastated that they couldn't say goodbye, not even the elderly mother who is in the same nursing home, just in a different room. I only just found out. I've known the family for 45 years.
<votive> For @jedijudy's R family. How horrible!
<votive> Prayers ascending for all in need, especially those mentioned here
(And thank you for your prayers for me.)
For the R family and other families who will find deaths much harder to come to terms with when they are kept away. For @Rossweisse and Yudi and @MrsBeaky and all.
I just learned that a dear woman, A, died last week after being struck by a car while she was crossing the street. She was an active member of a neighboring congregation, but she frequently visited ours. A bit eccentric, but in a lovable way. As far as know, she had no family (except her two churches). And of course there can't be a memorial service any time soon.
:votive:
<votive> For A. May she rest in peace and rise in glory, and may her memory be a blessing.
<votive> Prayers ascending for all in need.
Good news about my friends N and S. N's plasma treatment worked very well with his covid-19 infection, and he improved rapidly. As of yesterday, he is out of the ICU, and in a rehab place.
S tested negative, but she's self-quarantining anyway, wisely. Thank you for your prayers!
For the whole of the mess about the African-American man who was murdered by police in Minneapolis, Minnesota the other day. 4 cops fire, but AIUI *not* the actual murderer (who has a history of too much force). Protest and much looting in response. And breaking news that one of the police stations has been breached.
{NOTE: if you look into this, you're apt to run into the news clip of the actual murder, with the victim speaking. I absolutely take it seriously. I also find it extremely disturbing, and have to avoid it. FYI.}
And AIUI it's spilling over into other cities. Reminds me of similar violence all over the news when I was a kid: post Dr. King's death, Watts riot, etc.
The US has so much injustice towards African-Americans and other people of color. Sometimes, IMHO, there's some progress, but not enough. And then things get worse again.
🕯Prayers for love of all people to prevail, in America and everywhere
🕯Prayers for all who have lost loved ones, especially those who have died without the chance of final visits, or of the funerals which are such a vital element of the grieving process.
For my friend, still suffering from the false witness of supposed religious persons, while not having been allowed to know what it is he is supposed to have done. He is deeply upset by this.
I also wanted to say thanks to all who prayed for my friend K, who had an MRI to see if there was still cancer on her liver. She texted me today with the good news that she's been given the all clear from the hospital.
<votive> Prayers of thanksgiving for @fineline's friend K.
<votive> Prayers for the United States - can't we please get past this inexcusable, cancerous racism?
<votive> Prayers for all affected by covid-19.

Maybe I'm having a bad day, but is anyone else scared by the way lockdown is being eased in the UK? It seems such a mess that we're bound to get a second surge of infections, possibly worse than before.
I don't know about the UK, Robert Armin, but every pandemic in history has had a second wave. Best to keep social distancing, washing hands, etc. Prayers for all to take it seriously and to be able to let go of the fear.

Me too, @Robert Armin, it just seems chaotic and premature to me, though, to be honest, I’m more angry than anything else. Added to which, I sadly don’t trust our present government one inch. My husband and I are not going to change what we’ve been doing until we see much more evidence things are safer. 🙏🕯 for all of us everywhere.
(Tangent. My local church has a Friends Association. The Treasurer has started sending out a weekly newsletter. Today's was urging people to find the courage to end lockdown and get the country working again. I despair.)
Prayers for all, and for the unlocking in various places. Prayers for courage coupled with wisdom. Prayers for kindness. Prayers for God’s Spirit to be known even when the church can’t gather.
God, give us all the wisdom to know what to do, according to your will, in difficult times.
Please pray for my nephew, who is 29 years old and has Asperger's Syndrome. He had worked at a certain retail store for three years, with a glowing record, and was in line for a promotion. However, an unbelievably rude customer he was helping told him to go f**k himself, and unfortunately he replied in like kind. He was fired.
I understand that many of his fellow employees, including at least one manager, cried when they heard the news.
He has an appointment Monday with Human Resources to ask them to reconsider in light of his impeccable three-year record.
