A complaint

This past week I have been feeling especially unnerved by how Gamma Gammel has been pressing me for information I am not willing to share.

Previously I had mentioned my ancestor coming to the United States under duress.

Gamma Gammel then asked me the name of my ancestor. I declined to give it to him. He was not happy.

This week I again mentioned the story, and he pressed me again for the name. Once again, I told him no dice, but he kept pressing. Twice I tried to deflect saying I did not want to take it to hell, but he kept at it.

So, I gave him a hell call, and he still continued to press, even though I think I pretty explicitly said back off.

I am filing this complaint under the commandment Don't Be a Jerk. I am seeking relief. In the past similar posts have called for shore leave.

Let me make sure I understand ... you want Gamma Gamaliel to stop being a jerk?

Seems like he does not know what backing off really means. I am saying he needs to cool his jets.

When you called him to Hell you invited him to press you further and moreover to do so in a venue with lower guardrails. If you want him to shut up about it, I suggest you lead by example.

@Gramps49 I can see why you don’t wish to publish details on the internet that might out yourself and I would agree that it would be a bad idea to do so. And whilst I agree that @Gamma Gamaliel should give up the question and move on for that reason, the dynamic you are seeing here is similar to your argument with Nick Tamen on another thread. That is, you make an unsupported assertion, and another shipmate asks you to produce evidence for that assertion - you post in reply, but don’t supply the evidence. The result is a cycle of posts with you and the other shipmate growing ever more exasperated.

I would recommend not doing this either.

@Gamma Gamaliel stop asking @Gramps49 to identify his ancestor - it creates a risk of outing.
