at the risk of repeating myself, just another homophobic church. My husband and I would need flack jackets there.
  • The homophobic aspect doesn't seem to be highlighted in the actual MW Report, and also doesn't seem to be reflected in the info on their website (but I guess it wouldn't, would it?).

Still, America is, for better or worse, notable for churches such as this, as other MW Reports clearly demonstrate.

  • Mike, I do find your comment objectionable for the very reasons Bishops Finger stated. Homophobia, or the church's alleged stand thereon, was not mentioned in the report. Nor can I glean anything from their website that would indicate their views on the subject.

Of course, if you know differently, enquiring minds want to know, e.g. "My partner and I attended a service there once, and as we approached the Lord's Table for communion we were almost tarred and feathered" or "An elder came up to us and told us that it would be best if we left quietly."

Absent such evidence, I would prefer not to see comments such as yours attached to a report.

Their homophobic stance is clearly stated on their website. It says, under Beliefs ,"WE BELIEVE that the solemnizing of a marriage between men or women of the same sex is contrary to the Word of God and is a sin before God."

    That would be homohpobic.

Also, in the document called "Marriage, Divorce and Remarraige" document, available on the website it clearly states the follwoing:

I am often challenged today about the issue of
homosexual marriage. There isn’t enough room in this
paper to tell you why God made men and women as He
did, with predesigned differences that can be filled only by
the opposite sex, but that is what He did. He designed
marriage to meet needs He left in the human heart, needs
that only the opposite sex can meet. So, marriage as God
intended is clearly between a man and a woman, not a
man and a man, not a man and three women or a woman
and two men. The text is clear: “A man shall leave his
parents and cleave to a woman.”

This is wildly homophobic. and very offensive. But there it is.
  • But opposition to homosexual marriage is not quite the same as opposition to the homosexual state. The United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, more commonly known as the Shakers, don't believe in marriage at all, or even sexual intercourse, and yet they don't teach that God never intended human beings to exist. (Of course, it is thought that there are only two Shakers left in the entire world, so that statement may be suspect. But I digress.)

Homophobic? Perhaps they are. Offensive? Yes, I would agree. But you don't know for sure how they would treat a visit from you until you have actually visited.
