My turtle, Christie, is not eating. I think she has an infection of some sort, I'm bringing her to the vet on Wednesday if I can. Prayers are welcome, please.
The vet where I used to take my turtle no longer handles exotic pets. I tried frantically to find a place to bring her. Finally I have an appointment tomorrow morning at a vet in Manhattan. Going to have to bring her by mass transit... one bus and three subways to get there. Please pray this goes alright... and that they can fix whatever is wrong.
Well no one has commented, but just in case anyone is interested, the trip went without incident, and the turtle is now on antibiotics which I have to inject every three days.
Glad the visit went smoothly, @NicoleMR, and that she can get treatment. I hope the injections aren’t to much of a pain, either for her to receive or for you to administer.
We are looking after Gus for the weekend. He’s a nine month old Golden Retriever.
Gus is a big, bouncy sweetheart. His owner was using a halti unsucessfully, so I’ve tried a variety of harnesses with him and found one that works. (We have acquired many over the years!)
His owner said “he won’t wear a harness”. He will, of course, he just needed the right incentive (liver paste) 🐾🙂
He didn’t pull at all yesterday. His lead wasn't exactly loose, but that would come with a little training.
I‘m getting there with Ted, it’s been a hard slog. I’m used to big dogs and being easily able to feed treats in the initial stages!
Ted now knows what I want and I can remind him (thank you again liver paste!). He still forgets a few times each walk, but he is young and we are getting there. I’m just used to GD pups who get it in a few lessons!
I‘m looking for KC bronze puppy classes for him - training with other dogs makes a huge difference, I’ve realised. He needs to be super good to pass his Pets-as-Therapy test.
Molly taught herself to come to get me when Mr. Image needs help. One day he said get Graven and she came bounding out of his room. I followed her back. Now, whenever he says get Graven she comes and puts her paw on my leg. I am amazed we did nothing other than me responding to get her to do this. I did not even know she knew my name.
I got the results of my turtle's blood work today. She does not have a massive infection, but her calcium, phosphorus, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were all very high, which indicates something going on with her egg laying system. The suggestion was to keep giving her the antibiotic shots, and if there's no improvement in 3 to 4 weeks bring her back for x-rays or a scan to find out what's going on inside. Please pray for her.
Best wishes for a full recovery for your terrapin, @NicoleMR .. one that proceeds at more than a turtle’s pace. I skipped straight to the most recent posts. Did I miss a pic of your rep-child?
Meanwhile my furry kids Ember and Smoke are suburban stock dogs we go I’ve swindled into believing retrieving a ball is a noble calling. Ember on the left is a 17 month old female McNab ( a California breed composed mostly of border collie). Smoke is a 7 year old 50/50 heeler X Aussie boy.
Thank you MarkD. The latest update on my turtle is no change, I'm afraid. She still acts perfectly normal, except she won't eat. I'm giving her the antibiotic shots every three days in the hopes that she improves, but so far nothing. And no, I've never posted a picture, I'd have to find a picture hosting site and set something up.

Nice looking dogs you have,
Thank you Nicole. What kind of turtle is she? Maybe I can find a pic on the internet.
I have gotten a new aquarium heater and installed it, because after getting a thermometer I discovered the old one wasn't doing a very good job of heating. The new one is doing much better, and I hope it'll make a difference in her behavior.
I'm sorta kinda wondering about hibernation, given the temperature change. Possibly kicking it up a bit has made her hungry again? (turtles here all hibernate this time of year, outside anyway--inside would depend on species and temp, I think).
Well the thing is, she's 27 years old, I've had her all that time, and although she does slow down a bit in winter, she's never hibernated or just stopped eating like this before. It's definitely unusual.
edited to add: And her behavior aside from not eating is pretty active and normal.
Took her to the vet today, he says she looks better, and told us to see how she is in two weeks (I got a new and better UV bulb for her tank) and if she's normal, fine, if not, bring her back for a more thorough going over, scans and things.
As it happens, she was occasionally eating a bite or two, but not normally, and I was going to take her back to the vet. Then, on Christmas! as a sort of Christmas miracle, she started eating voraciously, and has continued so far till now. So I think whatever was wrong is over (I I found evidence that she had at some point laid an egg, so perhaps it was reproduction related) and, hopefully she'll be OK.

Good news! 🙂
