  • So glad to hear St Paul's Deptford is going strong. I remember it with a former rector who was equally Roman, robust and delightful. It is a long tradition. It once had a triangular rectory, also designed by Archer.
  • @Urganda , do you by any chance refer to Canon David Diamond?

AIUI he led something of a revival at Deptford, quite a few years ago, but I suspect he might have thought a congregation of 50 or so a bit sparse in those days!

Still, it's QUALITY that counts, and not QUANTITY (though Archdeacons may not agree...).

Or is it Fr Paul Butler? His Twitter account is worth following.
  • I think Fr Paul Butler is the present incumbent - I wondered if Urganda was recalling the famous ministry of Canon David Diamond, who was Rector from 1969 until his untimely death in 1992.

But yes, it's good to hear that this wonderful church is still going strong!
  • Yes. Father Diamond was a friend. I remember some Holy Week ritual involved him taking off his shoes to reveal perfect purple socks.
  • I see their parish website now gives a link to this MW report for those who want to know what going to a service at St Pauls is like.
