Easter Vigil (Special Reflective Thread)

jay_emmjay_emm Kerygmania Host
A space for verses that stuck out to you in this Paschal Season in a nice way.
Possibly share a prayer, hymn or element of the service (I'm anticipating most Easter ones are keryg appropriate, obviously respect copyright)

Note this thread is not a debate thread. It's a space for being in the story because it's Easter.

  • It's not Easter for us yet, but I could share some Lenten thoughts ...

    Hope everyone is having a reflective Good Friday on the 'Western' calendar.

    I'm going to credit it to the Maunday Services being a bit later but I'm feeling the connection between the Thursday, Friday (sat and sun) more than normal.

    There's been a couple of long passion readings, and the chaotic nature of 'this very night' has come through.

    Last year, though it was really nice that we were all for once one as Jesus prayed (at least in terms of chronology)

    A collect
    Grant, Lord,
    that we who are baptized into the death
    of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ
    may continually put to death our evil desires
    and be buried with him;
    and that through the grave and gate of death
    we may pass to our joyful resurrection;
    through his merits,
    who died and was buried and rose again for us,
    your Son Jesus Christ our Lord
  • This is the thing which gets me every time:

    Here might I stay and sing–
    no story so divine!
    Never was love, dear King,
    never was grief like Thine.
    This is my Friend, in whose sweet praise
    I all my days could gladly spend.
  • Doing sermon prep with Mr Lamb and running into the "He will meet you in Galilee" passages more than usual--and reflecting on just how LONG it took Jesus to follow his own instructions and get himself to Galilee to meet his people there! He kept popping in and out on Mary, Peter, the women, the Eleven, the two from Emmaus, etc.... at least six times in that first day, as I count it. As if he couldn't bring himself to wait to see them... as if he were impatient to see the ones he loves.

    The last few words of Bach’s St John Passion (in English).

    “Lord Jesus Christ!

    Oh hear Thou me. Oh hear Thou me,

    Thy Name I praise eternally!”

    I was blessed so much by the stunning BBC Easter Sunday broadcasr of the Passion. But in particular with the final communal chorale. And especially by the final, amazing, uplifting chord (sung to “Christ”). Brought me to tears as it so signified the victory of Jesus.
