I skipped church today because the person who gives me a ride told me yesterday that she would not be going. So, I spent the day cleaning my porch and getting ready for the winter. Forty minutes before church was to start, she said she had changed her mind and would be going. I had not fed or walked the dog, and I was dirty and needed a bath badly. It was too much to try and get done in 40 minutes. So I skipped and watched from home.
Ha! I did that, when I was still attending Our Place on Sundays. I usually sat (in my wheelchair) at the book table, near the door, so as to welcome people as they straggled in. By the time of the Gospel reading most folk had arrived (!), so I was able to quietly wheel myself out into the porch, in order to miss FatherInCharge's sermon.
Bless the man - he's a lovely chap, a faithful pastor, and does the Eucharistic Prayer bit most reverently - but he can't preach...
I had planned to watch my church's service on Youtube, live-streamed, but when I looked for it, it was not there. Later jn the day, a friend told me it may have been posted as a recording.
Yesterday I planned to skip my own church because family service does not appeal. I had four possibilities in mind. As I was awake early I managed a 9.15am choral eucharist in the next town. Later, choral evensong in another village. I had been invited as a local composer’s work was being sung.
I was glad I went, apart from the sermons, in both places.
I ended up skipping church yesterday as I was in bed feeling poorly after my COVID jab the day before...achey and shivery. Could have watched it live but couldn't be bothered, I felt that bad! Thankfully by mid afternoon I was ok.
Poor you! I had my very first Covid jab on a Saturday. Knowing I was due to lead worship the next day, and having been told by my sister of her adverse reaction to it, I made elaborate back-up plans.
In the event I was absolutely fine, although a later jab with a different vaccine did lay me a bit low.
I haven't (yet) been offered one this year; my flu jab last week had no side-effects.
I think skipping church because of a bad reaction to a flu or Covid jab is wise, and it's also sensible to make plans *in case*...
I had my flu jab yesterday - so far, no reaction whatsoever, not even a slight soreness, but the young trainee nurse (nurseling?) who did the deed was as gentle as anyone could wish.
