Vows of Vengeance
Knowledgable shipmates will correct me if I am wrong, but I am under the impression that members of Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. have taken a solemn vow to destroy the State of Israel. In the unlikely event of an outbreak of peace in the region, is there any body or person{s) within the diffused world of Islam with authority to release them from that vow?
[I would prefer this thread not to become diverted and bogged down in a fruitless discussion of the rights and wrongs of the Palestine conflict in which wicked and misguided deeds and atrocities have been committed by many parties.]

If there was a genuine "outbreak of peace in the region", I suspect that at least some of these groups would keep "Death to Israel!" in their manifestos, and there'd be a period where scattered violence was still carried out in adherence to the policy, but eventually the vows would become dead-letters.
I'm assuming there was a similar situation post-Good Friday with the various republican vows to "Drive the British out of Ireland!!". Some people probably remained wedded to the idea, but did little to actually advance it.
